At the end of last year, Epic Games was bombarded with legal action surrounding its use of iconic dance moves in Fortnite. In an attempt to avoid getting caught up in the whirlwind of litigation, Microsoft and Playground Games have decided to remove its “Carlton” and “Floss” emotes from Forza Horizon 4. Dance moves can't really be copyrighted but the game developer removed the moves as opposed to the costs of litigation more than likely in my opinion.

It seems quite stupid to have them in a game like this. But, what do I know?

So, dance moves are now corporate intellectual property? Who would want to replicate anything from Fortnite anyways? Fortnite is is shortbus PUBG. Considering PUBG is trash to begin with, I find this truly funny.

It's not a corporate intellectual property issue. It's not Forza copying Fortnite that's a concern. The concern is that big name entertainers are claiming that they invented or popurlized a dance move therefore they deserve to be paid for its use in a commercial product.

It's the makers of Fortnite being sued which scares the makers of Forza about also being sued.

Skip forward to 3:25 to get to the root of the lawsuits. It's the 1976 dance copyright law being tested.

Inventing or popularizing a dance move means they own it? The world is a crazy place I guess.

dance emotes in a racing game???  It seems to me that Turn 10 has been moving away from the driving aspect of the series over the last few years.  IMO, Forza Motorsport 6 was the best, with the 3d puddles that interacted with your car accurately.  After that, it has been all down hill.  Forza Horizon was a great idea at first, however they are making a mockery out of the latest installment.  Racing games just aren't what they once used to be.  They are not as popular as they once were, and it is because they are moving around what makes these games so much fun, racing.  In my opinion, Burnout 3 Takedown, Burnout Revenge, Need 4 Speed 3 Hot Pursuit, and Gran Turismo 2, will always be some of the top racing games.  Midnight club and other open world racers were good too.  But I miss the set tracks.

The thing though is if the entertainers actually do win these lawsuits I can see it opening a nasty can of worms amongst the video game industry, more specifically where it involves MMOs as they've been utilizing pop culture dances for nearly 20 years.
