Tough to bunker with these GPU projects that limit tasks.  Blowing through 80 and cards sitting idle waiting for this to start...

I know. If I was home I'd make a bunch of linux sticks and fill them with 80 more each.

Too any app_config file experts...
Anything we can do to run multiple tasks per GPU??

Storm is nearly past, so now looking trying to get everything online ready for a 4 days Sprint...

Appreciate any advice...

<app_config>
   <app>
     <name>milkyway</name>
     <max_concurrent>2</max_concurrent>
     <gpu_versions>
         <gpu_usage>0.5</gpu_usage>
         <cpu_usage>0.1</cpu_usage>
     </gpu_versions>
   </app>
</app_config>

Change the numbers as you need
0.5 is 2 per GPU
<gpu_usage>0.250</gpu_usage> would be 4 per GPU,,  if you want to do just three 0.333 I believe would be 3 tasks
or limit to max_concurrent 3

I am doing 8 on a Titan 6gb and doing 2 or 3 on my 1080Ti/1080

Way to Extreme for me

This is what I run on all but (Titans with DP Enabled)
<app_config>
   <app>
     <name>milkyway</name>
     <gpu_versions>
         <gpu_usage>0.3</gpu_usage>
         <cpu_usage>0.2</cpu_usage>
     </gpu_versions>
   </app>
</app_config>

This is what I run on (Titans with DP Enabled) Runs 20 Concurrent Tasks 10 Per GPU.
Also I do not run any type of CPU tasks at the same time.

 <app_config>
   <app>
     <name>milkyway</name>
     <gpu_versions>
         <gpu_usage>0.1</gpu_usage>
         <cpu_usage>0.2</cpu_usage>
     </gpu_versions>
   </app>
</app_config>

I am going to try something like I did years ago to run 2 folding clients at once.
When SMP first came out it did not scale well at all, CPU was at 70% or so, so we ran 2 at once to get to 100%.
We just made folder called folding 2, copied the original files to it. Named the exe file fah2.exe and pointed the desktop icon to it.
Not sure if it will work or not.

Just a heads up with Milkyway
When I was running with the task cache set to 0 it would not get a new task until the 2nd one finished.
That was running 2 on a GPU.
Also with 2 GPUs doing 2 tasks each, it did the same thing.
So I upped the cache to .1 so I had plenty of tasks on hand to keep the GPUs loaded.

I put the app_config.xml in the project folder just like any other app_config and my gpus are only running 1 per card - I have changed the cpu number around restarted boinc - hit read config files, even restarted the pc - no luck so I understand you are saying go to project prefs on the site and up that amount?

I have changed everything around that usually works - I may need a cc_config to get it to run 2 per card I dunno

Sorry to hear you are having issues Robby,
I got all mine setup this morning.
Used this..worked perfect..

<app_config>
   <app>
     <name>milkyway</name>
     <gpu_versions>
         <gpu_usage>0.5</gpu_usage>
         <cpu_usage>0.1</cpu_usage>
     </gpu_versions>
   </app>
</app_config>

I changed nothing else, just dropped the .xml into the MilkyWay project folder when the client is shut down.
Be sure you are saving as a xml in notepad, and you should be good to go..

I did all of the above - noticed you have no max concurrent in yours but I copied and pasted it into notepad - named it app_config.xml cranked up boinc and nothing; (placed it in the milky way folder of course) Windows 10
I dunno - I could double my output if i could get this to work - where is the cache setting Bill was referring to?

Make sure you're not hiding your file extensions. Otherwise you wind up with an .xml.txt file with the .txt hidden from view.

Agree, something is not right as that is the standard settings for GPU and CPU useage...

I have it set to show hidden files - how do i double check for this - this is annoying since I have put in 5 other projects app_config files no problem.

Did you use notepad, C&P the app info in post 743.
Save as app_confix.xml   all files. Should be good to go.

The cache I was talking about is under options network, download, days of work.
