EVGA replaced my card free of charge, received today, great service EVGA!

You are incredibly lucky! EVGA had no reason not to give you back your broken card unrepaired, charge you for a repair, or sell you a replacement card for hundreds of dollars. After all, it was entirely your fault for damage not covered under warranty. No one else in a similar situation should refer to this event and expect a similar outcome. I wonder which unfortunate person will be buying your repaired card as a Bstock item while you get a replacement card for free.

Why do you fell the need, to tell me everything i already know? I would have been happy to pay for repairs, just like I went and bought another card the next day. I never asked or told EVGA to send me another card, however THEY DID, thank you again EVGA, Great Service.

I was continuing the earlier conversation from above and making sure that other people are aware of the dangers of improper modification and improper use of tools; so that they won't expect such a good outcome as yours. Your luck wasn't to be expected and shouldn't be the benchmark to measure similar circumstances against.

Improper modification NO, it was an EVGA Hybrid cooler!, improper tools NO, it was the correct tool for the job, incorrect handling Maybe, bad luck, probably. I was asked to post the outcome and I did. Nobody should expect anything in life, but only hope for the best, hey maybe because it was Christmas, maybe because I've spent thousands of dollars, all I know is I got a good outcome.

Disclaimer

People don't expect the same outcome!

I think the best sort of conclusion to draw from this scenario is that if something really bad happens to your card, the best option is to stop what you're doing and contact Customer Support.  Situations like these are often handled on a case-by-case basis because EVGA cannot know the extent of the damage until reviewed, and often reviewed by the RMA department with the card in hand.  It's possible that some damage will be determined severe enough that it may void the warranty, but EVGA can't know that until the case is reviewed or the damage is quite obvious.  The worst decision is often trying to fix a card yourself.  Unless EVGA tells you that the card is out of warranty, I'd suggest working with Customer Support to first see what can be done.

Shocked EVGA done this. Really I am. This is a case of EVGA just being to nice and sends the wrong message. Its not okay to damage your own card hoping/thinking EVGA will pick up the tab. People see this thread and they might be that much more reckless now. Good PR for EVGA doing this. Bad for them opening the door for others can flame them when it does not go their way. Then just point to this thread.

As always, EVGA will determine how they will handle any repair /replacement.

I did the exact same thing not long ago and was thrown to the curve. As EVGA updated their TOS because of people using Nvidia cards for mining earlier this year, has wrecked it for everyone else.

I was an EVGA customer for over 10 years along with my brothers, until this incident. I was willing to pay the price to put another resistor on my card but they also stopped doing that.

I know not to bring up old posts but this one right here is exactly what I had done to mine. I was putting the old cooler back on the card and looked like I ripped off a resistor while doing so.

No damage to the card what so ever, card ran fine for ages. It still runs just stutters and a lot lower FPS then what it should be producing.

Would anyone have any clue where I could get a resistor that could be soldered onto my 1080 GTX. Dont really want to throw away $1200 just because of one tiny $0.10 cent resistor. :(

Thanks
