Hi everyone

Since Project G34 ran into some issues as CPU and ram parts go, the prices of it's new CPU's are way too expensive for me at this time, so I will continue on a rebuild to fill the waiting time a bit

Here an old but great system I still have regrets of trading not so long ago which was back in Q4 of 2008, even today it will do fine on my 19" 1440 x 900 x32 Samsung Sync Master 943 TFT Monitor in all existing games, especially with that EVGA GTX 480 backing it up.

Firefox SMP 2006

2x Dual Core AMD OpteronDP 285 E6 Italy CPU's
ASUS K8N DL NVIDIA NForce 2200 Professional chipset
4x 2048MB PC-3200 ECC Reg Dual Rank Micron Tech
1x EVGA GeForce GTX 480 PCI-E 1536MB 384Bit GDDR5 Rev.A3 2110
1x Western Digital 300GB Velociraptor 16MB Cache 10.000 rpm HDD *
Silver Stone Strider Plus 850 WATT Modular PSU
Lian Li PC-7FN**
2x Scythe Shuriken Heatsink with 2x Enermax 92mm x 92mm x25mm White Ledded Twister fans for the CPU's
1x 30 cm Blue CCFL's from Sharkoon ***
1x 30 cm Green CCFL's from Sharkoon ****
1x Blue Ledded 120mm x 120mm x25mm Fan from Antec or Enermax
1x Green Ledded 120mm x 120mm x25mm Fan from Antec or Enermax

Allready Ordered and Paid in Bold Orange

The Following Upgrades are planned for this system, Bold Blue is obtained and Bold Green has been ordered:

*= [3x 600GB Velo's will be added as later upgrade for Riad 0 array as Game Disk]
**= + Lian Li W-LM2AB-1 Side Window upgrade
***= 1x 30 cm Blue CCFL's from Sharkoon upgrade
****= 1x 30 cm Green CCFL's from Sharkoon upgrade
The extra lighting will be placed once the Side Window arrives, which has been ordered.

At least Iwas able to get a brand new ASUS K8N DL for a steal yesterday off ebay
http://www.ebay.ie/itm/14...ksid=p3984.m1439.l2649

And my EVGA GTX 480 is ready for this system as well

Here some old pics of this system on how it looked like back in 2006:

This time I will do much neater cabling and no sticky tape will be shown when the pics have been made for final shots, rofl

Stay Tuned !

    Re:Firefox SMP 2006 Rebuild Progress Log. 2011/09/11 08:48:42 (permalink)
Yeah it also reminded me of those good ole gaming days when I was at they 34 year old Computerclub I used to go to, sadly we closed doors last year on December 21rst, as the last event of on December 04, 2010

This was Computer Club on December 05, 2009, I always have my birthday party there, hence my Birthday is on December 08, just a few days after the club's December event   This is when I used the Dual 285 E6 for it's last run, I also brought my Roland E-14 Keyboard with me:

And this was March 06, 2010, which had lesser members:

My system has a USB Rocket Launcher It was fun using it on my opponents

The Club began as an Electronics club on January 03,1976 and it became a Computer Club on January 06 1990, December 04 2010 is it's last day, unbelievable, this does hurt me alot, been going there for a good 16 years now.

the thing that killed these lans is that the game makers force people to have internet to be able to play games with others, Steam is avery good example, I blame comanies like Steam for killing the real meanings of Multi Player and the game developers for removing Deticated LAN support from the new titles.

Such things are the doom to all Lan clubs on the other hand it's also part of the members of these computerclubs taking part ofthis new gen age that is killing their own clubs, they should evade such things and keep playing the retro games, there are tons of mods out there that can make real LAN games much more appealing.

I had a talk with a mate of mine about this and he siad that I was the first person complaining about this with him, somehow he did like the LAN part but he preferred to game with other people that the ones he knew, Isaid well this was possible also! It's only the part that was taken away, this is not needed, them consoles are also in the way, it seems that PC gaming isn't really PC gaming anymore.

I do plan to find alternatives but during the Golden Era there were over 15 computerclubs on the island Ilive and now the COmputer CLub of Oude Tonge has been the last remaining one since 2005.. So yeah I truly have no idea how to explain to them that giving up is not the way out.

I also avoided buying games like CoD Black Ops, , because I don't want to be a part of that new gen multiplayer system anymore, my so called friends just have aplayer less in their team.

Playing games like DXX-Rebirth, Descent3, UT GOTYE 1999, Red Alert 2 is much more fun these days, these are games that had usable content.

So I hope that your VA Lan computer clubs won't suffer the same mine did, please keep them alive any way possible, don't make the same mistake my club lead to.

And here the pics of the last event we had on December 04 2010, after this the Computerclub never returned:

Here a Video I made of this cool and last event, we played F.E.A.R. Combat a game I loved most during our gaming days of 2004 to 2007:

Anyways I still hope for a return of that club as well, we played alot of Quake 3 Arena, Unreal Tournament Game of The Year Edition 1999, UT 2004 and the Cod Series from CoD1 to CoD6 MW2.
    CoD1, 1.5 2 and CoD4 MW1 gave the best in game experiences.
CoD1.5 was United Offensive that awesome mission pack for CoD1.

We also played FarCry 1 and 2, they also gave the club some differences. when it came to F.E.A.R. Combat we had our greatest battles ever since UT GOTYE 1999.

I tried to add in the Descent series, but it made them feel dizzy xD ah well our best days was druing 1997 to 2007, and this system really made them go like damn Goldie you made us impressed again with a cool look'n 2CPU build of yours what's next? I told them the plans of a Dual Quad Core Opteron although I did not have the idea for the parts back in 2006, this eventually became Blue Leader SMP 2009, which was completed on March 26 2009, which lead to the system I am using today with them EVGA GTX 580 SCE's.

Anyways the Computerclub was what brought me to the idea to rebuild Firefox SMP 2006, the last VGA card i used on the computerclub was a Zotac GTX 480, but since I sold it I still have my EVGA GTX 480 here, so it will be used in this system, the GTX 480 was the last high end VGA card that saw daylight on that Computerclub, this system will bring back memories of that good ole place.

Everyone used ATi Radeon HD 4870's and HD 5870's I came with the GTX 480 and showed them that GTX 480 had more potential than their HD 5870's and they were amazed also   Now we all have our GTX 580's also Fermi has grown up these days, also good to see that Kepler will be refreshing our Fermi's one day as well

Yeah that were the golden days man, even that my house stand open for any type of lan, that was always the place to be, let's hope that with the return of Dedicated Servers on new games that the Lan option will return also, such things could reopen this club, although I still have my doubts, there is always hope though, gotta have hopes for somethings, right

Anyways the Dual Opty 285/885 will be fun to build, that's one thing for sure

Would be nice, although for me it will be hard to reach hehe The building where we held this club still exists, hiring it was like 300 euro's per year, really cheaper than most would expect, although during the Golden Era it was like 150 euro's a year,, but even so we could of kept it alive even with 6 people it still kept it's golden memories, back in 1997 to 2003 we had an avr of 25 to 35 members from 2003 to 2007 it was more like 12 to 20 members and after this the amount of people coming drastically decreased to an avr of 6 to 10 people.

    @ AlphaNerd xD

Yeah well that was Club member SR-71 Blackbird aka Nelis, he was looking for a phone number in his Blackberry there, as far as I can recall, but yeah after reading your post, it could of been the real reason xD

Battlefield 3 heh only 64 players mode, BF2 had this also I was hoping for 128 player mode imagine 64 versus 64 players rofl

    Mayhem anyone xD

Anyways as Firefox SMP 2006 goes the CPU's, Ram, Case, PSU, CPU Coolers and lighting shall be ordered this week!

So far so good guys xD

    @ HeThing

Nice Quick scoping in BO man, it is possible indeed, but I don't find Quick Scoping realistic, in Real Life it's hardly impossible since you have alot to do with gravital and windy forces that may make a quick scope uninsufficiant.

in the MW series I am the LMG guy, I prefer to give my troops cover in the middle of the battlefield. the M249, M60E4 and |RPD are my true favs.

I always use Bling Pro with Grip & FMJ Bullets, Steady Aim Pro and Stopping Power Pro
thedeath streak I have is Martydom, although it's hardly in use. My secondary is the Stinger Mobile Anti Aircraft system, keeping the skies clean is my secondary task as I also cover my army this way from enemy aircraft.

My fave LMG in MW1 was the M60E4 as where in MW2 it's the RPD, both have given me effective results. The term LMG means Light Machine Gun, it's for the ones that don't know what LMG means

As for the EVGA Computerclub, it might be an idea for EVGA members of this club to join games via the Internet?

This can be handy for the ones that lack the money or possibility for long distance ways of travel like via Ship or Aircraft or Train, I am one of such people btw.

Yes, Hamachi is a program that allows LAN-gaming using the internet.. it's genius program if you ask me..
When I play Call Of Duty I don't care much about my number of deaths.. all that matters is the K/D and the number of captures/defences depending on the gametype...
I mainly use the sniper I used in that video.. I started using it to show some friends that a sniper doensn't have to be a camper aswell.. I also use the Galil with slight of hand pro, silencer, tiger and ghost.

Well a sniper rifle up close can be more powerful than most shotguns out there heh, that is why I used the Dragonov or .50 Cal in CoD4 MW1 some times, up close man these were very leathal xD
Another thing, I'd like to thank the EVGA Crew member that gave me that Blue Ribbon

In cod 4 You should use the M40A3.. Use it with stopping power and better bulletpenetration.
    It kills everything!

nah in CoD4 I use the M60E4 with Fast Tap and Bullet penetration + Grip & Steady Aim ;) 40 bullets and a helo is shot down before it even knew what hit him xD The M60E4 is always handy when you are out of stingers or RPG-7's.

Anyways I want to concentrate more on my system for now , let not wander too far off topic, even how addictive talking about favorite games can be, okay

The case for my system will be the Lian Li PC-7FN + Side Window, I know it's a different style case but even that it's a rebuild some parts that have a new look are welcome, it is a new build after all xD
This is where I plan to obtain this case:
    http://www.alternate.nl/h...ngen&l2=Midi+Tower

The location of the PSU is odd, it's on the floor level of the case instead of in the top area, so this is something I will have to figure out, since I am used to cases that have the PSU in the top zone of the case, since Dual Opteron boards have their power connectors also in the top area of the motherboard.
But hey every new thing does not have to mean it's a bad thing rigty

The other parts shall be these:
1x Silverstone Strider 850 Watt PSU:
    http://www.alternate.nl/h...p;l2=meer+dan+600+Watt

1x Western Digital Velociraptor 300GB SATAII 10.000rpm HDD as main Boot Disk:
    http://www.alternate.nl/h...-ATA&l3=3%2C5+inch

2x Scythe Shuriken Rev. B Heatsinks:
    http://www.alternate.nl/h...essoren&l2=Koelers

They will get a fan upgrade from their stock Scythe coolers to a pair of Enermax Cluster 92mm x 92mm x25mm white ledded Twister Fans :D

So these upcoming weeks I will make  more pics of the ordered parts that have arrived, so stay tuned EVGA people!

More parts arrived the past four days o here they are the CPU's ram and Mobo all parts in place

Here the rear view of the ASUS K8N-DL

Here the layout of the ASUS K8N-DL from the viewpoint from where the Bios chip can be seen

Here the IO Backplate, the ram chips can also clearly be seen

I also placed the EVGA GTX 480 in the Motherboard to give you an idea of it's allocation

So yeah that's it for now, I'll keep this topic updated as this system get's it's life rebuilt!

After 8 hours of careful building cabeling it all here's the result!

The system after I was finished placing the last cable for the forn panel

Here the system and the neat clean build I tried to do in this small case:

As you can see everything was neatly tucked away:

Here the front view of the case; the Lian Li PC-7FN

Here the system preparing a Win7 pro x64 installation!

Here the system in all it's glory Firefox SMP 2006 fully revamped!

And here a sweet close up of the two CPU coolers which took me more than 4 hours to get in that position, the second HSR was a true PITA

But hey with patience you can compete with anything, just relax, take a few deep breaths and continue to solve the issue, I solved it by filing some of the HSF of the main CPU away, thx to this I was able to attach it aside the slave CPU's HSF in the locked mode haha but hey as you see it worked

Anyways every new build also can create a lovely pile of disposable stuff, looks like my Recycle Bin is overloaded

Well I hope you all enjoy these photo's, after the system is installed I will see what this thing is still capable of

It seems I am stuck with this complicated BSOD

No leads yet and I have no idea where to look

VGA card installed correctly, I removed the sound card and FDD to be extra sure, the GTX 480 installed without issues, the ram count = 8GB and 4 CPU cores are all neatly seen, this BSOD happens a lot after about 5 to 10 minutes load times.

If any of you have a helpful tip, let me know Please.

Well I found it and guess what hah! Just them lame things you'd never expect you know them brackets you remove to place a VGA card sound card or a USB card, Hah! two of these were mounted incorrectly hereby giving a short cicuit haha my bad there ah well it runs dead stable now I also removed the FDD drive which seemed to be defect at first I thought this was the cause, but it wasn't it was them silly brackets rofl

After replacing these brackets to the proper position I also ran , I ran HD Tune and Memtest And no errors no BSOD"s anymore heh, there you have it the smallest silly thing can turn any system on it's head
But anyways it's great too have the Dual 285 E6 on the K8N-DL alive again, man I missed this setup so much, just good to be back and now all my main systems are Dual Opterons xD

Thank god I don't have to move them CPU's rofl that was a nightmare to get them Shurries there haha oh man

Firefox SMP 2006 is running Fire6.exe, which is a stability test program I received from Prof. Hank S.
The lead engineer of the 3dfx Daytona Program, he also took part of the Vodooo5 6000 program and 3dfx Rampage 2000 program, which lead to the 3dfx SPECTRE.

With Fire6.exe I stress test the EVGA GTX 480 in the system @ 1440 x 900 x32 + CSAA x332, TAA x8 Supersampled & AF x16 , this will run for about 12 hours to secure the stability of the system with such a powerful VGA card under very high stressed conditions.

Normally Fire6.exe was used to run stability tests on 3dfx Engineering Samples, so this makes the program extra sensitive

It has been running since 09:12 AM and now it's 17:22 PM and so far so good
Here a short vid I made of it in action

Love the rig man, and love hearing about all the memories from the club. Too bad there aren't more things like that anymore. It seems true that there are less and less good co-op games around for local LAN. My brother and I like to game together in campaign modes so we feel your pain.

    Hay thanks man
It was great fun rebuilding it, even that BSOD's reason was a major laugh xD

Maybe we oughta do some co-op with those games online? Just an idea to relive those moments, I do that with Descent I, II and 3, even today :D

The tracker for Descent I & II games can be seen here:
    http://dxxtracker.reenigne.net/#

To play Descent I or II you will need DXX-Rebirth 0.57.1 which you can grab here:
    http://www.dxx-rebirth.com/download-dxx-rebirth/

There is a read me file in the package for the installation instructions :)

What games did you play with yer brother?

Lately we've been playing Operation Flashpoint Red River which was pretty good, not great though. We've also been re-playing some COD MW2 co-op scenes and what not. Borderlands is also a pretty sweet Co-op game in my opinion. Sadly the gaming is slow these days with being back in the full swing of school. I'm in my final year on my degree so life is busy haha!

Well guys the system has finally come to it's completion, since the side window arrived today

So here is what it has become

As for the cable management this is how I tried to make things as neat as possible:

Since that there is plenty room and surface to pack away cables you don't want to see, I kinda tried to spread them out over the entire front rear surface:

Thanks to good cable management options, this was the outcome for the important side:

    And light's are on!

Here a better shot I made so you can see the two Scythe Shurikens cooling them two OpteronDP 285 E6 CPU's:

By placing one of the green CCFL's in the rear, this is how I made the blue light less dominant, also giving a sweet green glow on the EVGA GTX 480

At night this system will give my room a sweet Green/Blue Glow, them white ledded fans will also neutralise the effect from the center
