    Directly from Nvidia's website http://www.geforce.com/#/Hardware/GPUs/geforce-gtx-580/specifications

3 way SLI supported on this card not 4 way.

Yes, they are designed to run single GPU, 2-way SLi, 3-way SLi, and 4-way SLi with supporting components. Power draw for such configuration with complementing hardware is in excess of 1200Watts.

NVIDIA do not advertise 4-way, because they do not certify and develop and ecosystem for it, but it does in fact work.

with just one 6 core processor (which i wish i had just one lol ) having so much gpu power won't he run into cpu bottlenecks? or do you plan on moving up to 2 cpu's?  Also on a 23" monitor?  seems like a lot of waste to me.

umm same for the GTX 480's thats why if your thinking about 3 cards or more you really need to think about a six core 12thread cpu or an sr-2

You have to take into account scaling too. As for the cpu bottleneck it depends what they used and what it was overclocked to.

One person's garbage is another person's gold, who are we to judge?

That said, the funny part is some folks don't seem to realize that not all programs that can make use of more GPUs are also capable of making use of as many cores as we can throw.  They aren't coded that way and patches won't fix it.

In the end, only the core(s) in a CPU that the game uses to tell GPU's what to draw really matters, not the rest.  Meaning only those few cores in use by the game must have a higher frequency to sustain preferences with more GPUs.  Getting a 6-core or a future 8-core (or a pair of either) for more powerful GPUs won't matter unless the game actually uses those cores and threads.  So the system better be for other uses than just a game.

Many programs still don't use all 12 threads of a Gulftown, but that doesn't stop people that buy into multi-GPU systems claim more cores are better for their [gaming] experience.  As long as they keep doing it, both AMD and Intel think there is demand and keep upping the core/thread count, giving them something to do until software developers catch up.

I'm saying if a lesser core processor can clock higher, and games only use those cores anyway, why not?

For Intel processors, 0.122 x TDP = Continuous Amps at 12v [source].
