This might sound odd but I keep hearing a scratching sound coming from my motherboard.  It happens about every second, like the ticking of a clock.  Most people will probably not hear it since they have a case but my motherboard is mounted on my desk and is out in the open. The sound reminds me of the sound an HDD makes but I only have M2s installed. Anyone know of this issue or is this not even an issue and its normal?

Sounds like some coil whine. I've noticed it on a variety of motherboards, in the VRM area.

what bios are you running? What is your power supply? Have you changed any settings in the enhanced C-state section? I've heard people describe changes to their coil whine situation depending these three things. Usually it isn't any cause for concern or real "problem", it's just an annoyance and up to you if/how you want to address it.

Thanks, disabling C-state got rid of the noise.

Thanks, disabling C-state got rid of the noise.

That is a pretty terrible "solution" to an inconsequential minor annoyance.

I would ignore the subtle scratching noise and leave C-states enabled.

The coil whine is real, unfortunately. I've had to disable C1 since owning my Z690 Classified. Otherwise, I'd have gone nuts from the hum/buzz/whine that comes from the CPU socket area.

Sounds like a good reason to consider a refund, instead of a bandaid.
