Finally snagged a gen 5 ssd but I can't seem to figure out how to get it into PCIe 5.0 x4 transfer mode. It is a Inland TD510.

(wall of code removed)

It is installed in slot 3. Not sure what I am doing wrong. Anyone else have any luck?

(EDIT photo fail, code removed by Cool GTX)

Hello, I had to edit your post to remove that wall of code that happens when the image insert fails

So, are you a long time EVGA forum's lurker or just have not posted in a very long time?  I only see 1 post since 2014 ?

Which MB are you using?

What OS?

FYI: When inserting an image, make sure you use "copy photo link" & (not copy photo)

Thanks for the tip. I’ll fix the image later when I’m home. It was crystal disk info showing it is in pcie 4.0 x4.

MB is EVGA Z790 DARK K|NGP|N, 121-RL-E799-KR

OS is Win 11

I am a huge a fan and long time lurker. Been able to afford some gpus over the years. First motherboard.

Just a side note looks I may have answered my question. Looks like the lanes to the nvme are only gen 4. Other manufacturers’ z790s seem to be the same but supply a riser card to slot into one of PCIe 5.0 lanes and put the nvme inside of the card.

Separate question though, any idea if EVGA will be doing something similar?

you are correct, the M.2 slots are only gen4. The PCIe slots (x16 slots anyway) are gen 5, but if you have things plugged into both, they'll operate at x8 each.

I don't think I've seen EVGA offer any kind of M.2 PCIe adaptor before, but I've seen a few articles recently about companies announcing gen5 PCIe-to-M.2 adaptor cards (here's a concept, another one) They wouldn't need to be specifically from EVGA. They do look large, with crazy heat-sinks though. Best of luck to you fitting those in any kind of case in addition to a video card lol. I don't know if anybody is selling them yet. Lots of announcements (as shown above), but I don't see anybody selling them yet.

I kind of agree about the adapters looking large and kind of crazy with some seeming like they would block airflow. It makes me wonder if they really are much faster when all is said and done.

There a couple of factors to consider but the crux of it is that gen 5 SSDs are capped at roughly 7 GB/s bandwidth limitation and not the 10/9.5 (read/write) the drive is capable when using gen 5 lanes.  Heat will affect performance but nothing like the limitations of PCIe 4.0 vs PCIe 5.0

Granted my 4090 would be running in PCIe 4.0 x8 and the drive would run PICe 5.0 x8, I am trying to compare avocados to avocados.

Crucial's t700 is supposed to have the same controller and Micron memory as the Inland TD510

It is night and day compared to the 970 evo it is sitting next to but I want all the avocados right now.

I'm kicking myself cause I didn't even consider this to be a problem and riser card will not fit with a 4090 in this Hyte Y60.

Would it be possible to run PCIE 5.0 x4 or x8 option in bios settings down the line on the 2nd PCIE slot for the PCIE 5.0 SSDs, and then the GPU in the first slot at PCIE 5.0 X8 down the line say for example when RTX 5090 releases? That is my goal also down the line

That's how it normally operates for the full-sized slots. From the manual:

*When only one PCIe device is installed between PE1 and PE2, the motherboard will auto-switch x16 CPU lanes to the PCIe slot where the device is installed. If PE1 and PE2 each have a PCIe device installed, the bandwidth will be split x8/x8.

To illustrate, imagine that you install a single graphics card in the system:
 If installed in PE1, PE1 will use x16 lanes and PE2 will default to x0 lanes.
 If installed in PE2, PE1 will default to x0 lanes and PE2 will use x16 lanes.
 If two graphics cards are installed, populating both PE1 and PE2, both slots will use x8 lanes.

Just note that the third bullet could be one graphics card and one SSD-adapter-card. It just means there are PCIe cards in both slots, they don't have to be graphics cards.
