I got a used card, it has been working ok. A recent driver upgrade and it is freezing ocassionaly. I am not a gamer, use 3d cad. It is an 8gb card. seems to be running cool. Do I just go back to sopme older driver? is there a test to run. I tried the windows test. It is a used card. how to get that great tech support without a registration of a new card.

Yes, go back to the older driver. Check your CAD software for best driver recommendations To get the most help the quickest it is Best to list some basic information the Hardware on your PC (brand & model number): MB & BIOS version, CPU, GPU, PSU & the OS you are using

A used 500 watt power supply is probably not enough, unless it has a Titanium rating with a lot of life left in it. If it is a Gold or Bronze rated power supply, that is the first thing I would suspect and replace; especially if it has a couple of years of use and degradation in its history.
Secondly, mixing a 16 GB kit of memory with a 32 GB kit of memory is begging for trouble. Pick one and sell the other.

Agreed. +1 to both items. The minimum recommended PSU spec was 500W back when the 1080's were being produced.

Thanks for the input guys, it is a new one I just have to look up what PSU I bought, it was a 500 plus, I did put my old 670 video card back in, same thing, thought about the Ram and too the two 16's out last night, left it running at two a.m. and 7 hours later it is still running. Keep your fingers crossed for me. It has been running fine with the unbalanced ram in but maybe with the driver upgrade recently it didn't like it. Thanks again to all!!!!

It's up and running 10 + hours now. Leave it alone a couple of days, go back in with the 1080 if steady. Left streaming video all night

57 hours up now.!!!!! will try the 1080 card again, maybe tomorrow. Hve some work to get done first. Been losing too much time. The 1080 shows plenty of power for what I do. move to DDR6? more Ram go to 12? I am only using 2-3 GB of the 4 available now with the 670 card. So the speed of ram or type may be more important than amount. Suggestions for a "new" card better than the 1080 for cad.

Once you run with the 1080 again to make sure all is still good, you can then see how much video memory you're using from that card. That would help you to decide if an upgrade is worth anything.
The 1080 uses GDDR5X at best and runs at 10000 MHz effective. When you get to say a 2070, you'll have the same amount of video memory (8GB iirc), but it will be GDDR6 which will run at 14000 MHz effective.
Some of the 30xx series cards have 10GB or more and the same for the 40xx series with 12GB or more.
Bottom line in my opinion... Buy the best GPU you can afford. CAD will make use of the amount of video memory and speed as well as the clock speed for rendering and processing.
