SEEMS TO BE A LOT OF ISSUES WITH THE 3080/TI series, currently running a 2070 FTW.
And would like to upgrade If its A substantial upgrade.? (BUT)  Are these just superficial problems or a EVGA quality issue?
been awhile since i have been here, but seems like a lot of problematical topics on these cards. please let me know thanks

Personally, at this date, I'd say you'd be better of buying a RTX 4070 (if it releases) for cheaper and better performance.

Personally I have not seen any issues with any EVGA RTX 3080ti video cards. If there were then you would probably have seen numerous complaints on this forum.

What are you paying for the 3080? I ended up going all the way to the top end simply out of frustration of the pricing.
Have you heard about a770 cards they are better than 3060 card for 320.
The Battlemage is not out yet but that should be exciting to see.
A 2070 right now should be enough for a while main thing is what resolution are you going to play at and what games and graphics settings?

Two important questions I have for you. What monitor are you using or planning to upgrade to in the next few months and what games are you currently playing or planning to play in the next month or two? Other question would be is the 3080 being bought second hand and if so it would be good to know a ballpark of what you are going to be spending. The 2070 is still a pretty good card for gaming at 1080p and 1440p that a the majority of gamers are still using. If the games you are currently playing don't need the power yet it might be worth waiting to see what the 4070 does.

As for problems with the 3080 I haven't really heard that many issues. Or at least not a crazy amount of them or at when you compare it to the 1080 and the 2080. Here on the EVGA forums you do see a lot of people with problems but that is kind of what the forums are for. Some people without problems come here to share their builds or to post benchmark scores but the majority of people are looking for help. A good example of this is you would see a hundred of people posting about Resident Evil 4 issues over the last week on Capcom forums but that is because the game sold over 3 million copies in just two days so of course some people are running into issues.

    About 3080,
Here is the thing, about 2 months ago last I checked a never used version lowest price was 700 and went up to around 1,000.
RTX 4070 should be out in a month its expected price is 599, has 12 gigs of VRAM (you want high vram in 1440 these days).
4070 will of course be better than the 3080 on the other specs.

At some point Battlemage will be announced and its expected to be a good gaming card, if it follows the same pricing that the a770 card did well its going to be affordable compared to other cards in the higher tier of gaming.

So basically if your getting a generation old gaming card, better be getting a good price because there are even now some good deals or on the other hand your spending so much money maybe go a little more and get a high end card like a 4070ti, 4080, or 4090 GPU...Issue going that much is all the other equipment is going to cost to get the most out of owning such cards though.

    Todays gaming,
You want 16 Gigs of VRAM and 256 Bus for 1440p to avoid issues with stutter, check 1% lows.
Check out "Last of Us" video card reviews, its pretty bad.
Mostly the video cards dont have enough VRAM, Last of US full graphics settings in 1440p needs about 13.5 Gigs of VRAM.

Hogwarts same issues, need a beefy amount of VRAM and Bus.

DLSS does not really help much if your already VRAM starved.

Well, I have an extra 3090 Ti FTW3 Ultra kicking around, in case you are interested. Given where they trade, it might be a better option for you. I realize this is not the “for sale” forum. For what’s worth, never had any issues with it. Just built a new machine with a new GPU.

Not now, its more than 2 years old , Even a used card is going to be 600$
Your card Port Royals about 5000 points
a 3080 ti Port Royals about 11800 points
A 4070 ti is only 800$ and port royals about 14120 points, about the same as a 3090 kingpin that pulls over 450w
+ The 4070 Ti only pulls 280W and will run anything out there today and tomorrow with DLSS3 and you get a 3 year warranty

I have had a 3080 FTW3 Ultra Gaming, a 3080 12gb FTW3 Ultra Gaming and had no issues. Yet honestly you would be better off getting a 40 series card. They may not have the cards to honor the warranty, there is no step-up, no extended warranty, the 30 series are EOL.  I would suggest a 4070 or 4070 TI, if you can swing it get a 4080 or go all out and get a 4090 TI. I would only go with a nvidia founders or Asus, yet I will say MSI and Gigabyte warranty service is easier to deal with on both here in the USA at least anyways.

    Re: should i PURCHASE A 3080?? 2023/04/06 01:11:59 (permalink)
I would try and save for a 4080.  The amount of VRAM is one of the areas of concern when comparing the 3080 to the 4070, but it is also the memory speed and the bus.  If the bus is too small it will affect the performance because the gpu will not be able to push out the data needed for graphics.  I know the 4080 is not a good buy right now, but hopefully in the near future the price will drop a bit and make it a better value.  The 4070 would be a good price option if you are not able to get a 4080 though but keep in mind like I shared the the bus speed is a concern.  There are various youtube videos showing the 4070 performance to be very similar to the 3080TI and in some cases the 3080TI beating the 4070 in frames.  The point made about the ability to have your 3080TI replaced under warranty is also a good point too.  If Nividia had a better memory bus then that would remove one of the larger concerns about the 4070 tbh and almost make a solid buy overall.

If you are getting it used, then it's really going to come down to what price can you get it for.  There was a user on the overclockers forum with a evga 3080TI with a Optimus block installed and he was selling for 600.  That's a 400 dollar block attached to the block and if he has the air cooler still then you could reinstall it and sell the block to get some money back or keep it to do a custom loop while saving a lot of money.  It all depends on pricing and what you are able to afford.  The 3080TI, 4070, and 4080 all have strong points but the 3080TI and 4070s have areas of concerns when it comes to performance and the 4080 has the pricing issue.

    Good luck with your selection.
