EA surprised us all last year with the announcement of Dead Space Remake. Given EA's checkered history, there was some concern that a ‘modernised' version of the game would bring about unwanted changes, similar to what happened with Dead Space 3. Fortunately, the reviews are now in and it looks like the team at EA Motive has delivered an impressive and faithful retelling.

Today, roughly 50 pre-release reviews for Dead Space Remake went live, with many praising the game for its graphical overhaul and gameplay tweaks to freshen up the experience. By most accounts, this is a stellar remake of a cult classic, so if you've been hoping to see Dead Space return, or you never had the chance to play the original game, now seems to be a great time to jump in.

Over on Metacritic, Dead Space Remake currently has an 89 overall score, just as it does on Open Critic, making it one of the highest-rated releases of the year so far, beating out other big titles like Fire Emblem Engage and Forspoken. Dead Space Remake launches tomorrow, the 27th of January, for PC, Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5.

Looks like a very good remake.

A few weeks ago, I played the original Dead Space for about 45 minuets, in preparation for the remake. (Hadn't tried it in over ten years.) When first released, I never completed more than 10% of the it or ever; because of the terrible lack of character control and the video lag and stutters. I used to give it a second try with each new video card but it was just one of those games that sadly the character control was never going to work like top notch games do. So the original Dead Space wasn't worth playing -- ever.

As a result of preparing a few weeks ago for around 45 minuets with the original in prep for the remake; it was easy to play today -- jumped right into np. And it works fabulously! Character controlling is working perfectly and there's no video lag or stuttering. Graphics are beautiful. The characters in the remake look great which greatly accents the story as a result. You feel for them.

It's less fun than the 1st time I played Doom 3, but that is a high bar if ever. But Doom 3 and all it's excellence did come to mind! due to the darkness and closed quarters and cool looking tech and being alone then overwhelmed by monsters.

Dead Space Remake is a great game to play now. Everything is working perfectly -- so far -- 2+ hours into it. And it feels like a game worth playing and completing now. It's just like Crysis 2 Remake I played this week. (Hadn't tried it, in over ten years.) Now that the graphics are top notch and controlling the character works perfectly, in both game(s), they're fabulous and very fun to play. I stopped today -- no spoilers -- at a big puzzle place in Dead Space Remake and can't wait to solve it tomorrow. Then kill all the monsters and search around again, then solve a puzzle, etc..

Game looks great and the dark lighting works really well for it. Gameplay looks slower and more deliberate than we really see in a lot of modern space shooters but that works well for making you notice the ships details. It’s nice that it also feels different than other games coming out recently.

If the game has a flaw it’s that it’s shorter than some other games but not painfully short. That said though it’s a great demonstration of ray tracing in games really helping make the environment better.

This game is a joke. Doesn't even run in full screen mode, or borderless full screen mode. HDR is broken as well. I put in an instant refund.

Huh? It's working fine for me full screen at 5120x1440 here. I'm averaging about 120fps with everything maxed (using DLSS quality) and it's very smooth. Granted I haven't tried HDR but then again I don't really bother with HDR on Windows since it's usually not great which is  a Windows thing and not a game thing since HDR often works just fine in the console counterparts of the same games.

After searching through the dead space community threads on steam I’m finding I’m not the only person with these issues.

It’s best to find trusted review sites that use the first bit of a game or to read a website. Website’s articles are not as spoiler as video can be but I don’t mind seeing scenes of the early part of the game.
