STAR WARS: Squadrons are now free to on EGS. Epic Games Store is continuing its regular giveaways of free games.

Starting from yesterday, gamers can now add Star Wars Squadrons to their library at no cost. This is another chance to expand the list of games on this emerging game launching platform. Whether one actually wants to play this game is a different story. Star Wars Squadrons is a space fight simulator set in the popular sci-fi universe. It has a single-player campaign mode and multiplayer mode to play either against other human or AI players. The game should run smoothly on most modern GPU hardware. Even with GTX 1060 3GB you can expect more than 100 FPS at 1080p resolution with high settings.

Squadrons is still a relatively new game, it was released in fall 2020, and it has a regular price of $39.99. The promotion ends on December 1st.
Take control of starfighters such as the X-wing and TIE fighter. Customize loadouts and cosmetics, divert power between weapons, shields, and engines, while immersing yourself in the cockpit. Learn what it means to be a pilot in a thrilling STAR WARS™ single-player story set after the events of Return of the Jedi. Seen from alternating perspectives between two factions, iconic and emerging leaders on both sides are battling for the galaxy. The New Republic fights for freedom. The Empire demands order. We need you to join the galaxy’s finest.

I am downloading the free game now.

Good stuff that game is worth playing and downloading. Thank you for sharing RJ

Those who abuse power, are nothing but scumbags! The challenge of power is how to use it and not abuse it. The abuse of power that seems to create the most unhappiness is when a person uses personal power to get ahead without regards to the welfare of others, people are obsessed with it. You can take a nice person and turn them into a slob, into an insane being, craving power, destroying anything that stands in their way.

Definitely a great game for VR if people are able to handle it (since some people get motion sickness). The game looks great on a monitor but on my Quest 2 really became more immersive. I enjoyed being able to look around the cockpit and being able to fallow ships out the windows in a more natural way.

One thing for VR users to keep in mind is it takes a gamepad since VR controllers are not supported in the game and keyboard and mouse is kind of tricky in VR but would be possible I guess. It really makes me wish they would do a remake of X-Wing and the Tie Fighter game with the same engine.

Man this game was so promising, it was unfortunate EA decided that no DLC meant no content whatsoever. What little that was added to the game was partially on the dev's own time. The steam playerbase for that game went from 35K to <100 because there only ever was the same two mission types to play endlessly.

It's a shame how many promising games start with EA and end up horrible.

But the game isn't horrible by any stretch of the imagination. The game is actually great.

I agree that the game is great, EA has a tendency to start something that could be fantastic but they someway or another burn it down or walk away from it. Kinda makes you wonder what they are thinking 🤔.

You'll get no argument from me that EA has a tendency to ruin all the games they put out with horrible monetization practices. So if the choice is that or this "one and done" single serving game, I'd choose this 100 times out of 100. I'd much rather have an unfettered game with no garbage locked behind paywalls like they did with Battlefront II. Imagine buying this game and having iconic ships like the X-Wing or Tie Fighter locked behind a RIDICULOUS in game grind or the ability to buy loot boxes to unlock them like they did with Darth Vader or Luke Skywalker in BFII. No thank you.

Problem is they didn't do that. The original Xwing game had something around five massive campaigns and all sorts of multiplayer modes. Squadrons has a very short single player, and only two multiplayer missions. They could've easily done a dozen different multiplayer mission scenarios with very little effort.... and that would've been enough to keep the game playerbase engaged. But nobody likes flying the same exact mission over and over, even if they did change the map they put the mission on.

Squadrons didn't launch as a full priced game. It launched at only $39.99, I don't see why you guys are harping about it not having a million different missions. This one as much as you may hate to admit it, EA got it right. They didn't load it to the gills with micro transactions and they didn't charge full price.
