I want a budget 2 in 1 Laptop. I've narrowed it down to two. It won't be used for gaming. I use my PC for that. I want the 15.6" screen. They are both $499 after $300 off price. The Asus Zenbook, and the HP Envy x360 are pretty similar in specs. The Asus has AMD Ryzen 7 5700U, while the HP has AMD Ryzen 5 5625U. Would appreciate your opinions.

Thanks. I was leaning towards Asus after reading those online opinions. I'll post back later saying which one I get after I go there now, and have a look in store.

The salesman at the store said he likes HP better, but he hasn't owned an Asus. I then said the processor is faster on the Asus. So I decided to get the Asus. Ordering online, because my wife wants to include Ebates to get some money back.

I would also choose the ASUS over the HP. It has a Ryzen 7 5700U with a dedicated MX450 for graphics vs a Ryzen 5 5625U with integrated graphics. The ASUS is the clear winner on specs. The HP is a 6 core 12 thread model with only integrated graphics (Vega 7) while the ASUS is 8 core 16 thread with a dedicated GPU AND it has integrated graphics (Vega 8) to fall back on for just desktop use. The MX450 is about on par with a GTX 1650 for reference.

The choice is clear between those 2, ASUS all day every day.

Though for either I would like to see you get 16GB of RAM as 8GB even for general desktop use can fill up rather quickly.

Thanks for the info. I needed to read that. Also, I think the Laptop can be upgraded to 16GB, but has to be done by a service tech. Like Geek Squad, or any other techs. I heard it's a little tricky to do.

He either doesn't know or just tried to sell you on Geek Squad garbage. The ASUS Zenbook uses LPDDR4X which means it's soldered to the board and not upgradeable. If you're just using it for general PC use like videos or browsing the web 8GB should be OK as long as you aren't prone to have a lot of Chrome tabs open or try to do too much multitasking.

Nothing fancy. Just light use. I would have got the 16Gb but they are too expensive. Will see how it goes after I use this 8GB a little bit.

HP does have some good stuff, i had a top tier Monitor from them years ago that lasted until i broke the screen changing out the backlights, had it all together and working but the bezel was slightly off and i tried to push it a little and cracked it...yes, im a dumba...., but there 1 year warranty on everything they sell is the number one wont spend money on them ever reason. Theyve had it forever and refuse to change it so unless somebody is giving you HP stuff for free i would suggest against them every time no matter how good it is.

It might also be important to consider that the 5625U is Zen3 where the 5700U is Zen2 despite the model name. So they're about the same performance in all core loads but the 5625U will have the advantage everywhere else.

No, not really. You're overlooking the TDP settings they configure them to. The 5625U in the HP is locked to 15w max TDP while the ASUS model allows the CPU to use up to 25w. While 10w isn't much at all it will allow the 5700U to perform better in most scenarios between these 2 laptops. They don't make any of this obvious and is really not consumer friendly same way Nvidia recently made it nearly impossible to tell which version of GPU you're getting with regards to TDP. Also the ASUS laptop has a dedicated GPU in the MX450 that uses Turing architecture and with that comes the excellent NVenc encoder that will allow the ASUS model to vastly outperform anything video related compared to the HP laptop and it's Vega 7 integrated graphics.
