Expect Samsung to reveal an 8K ultrawide display at CES 2023
During the company's RDNA 3 GPU reveal, AMD confirmed that their Radeon RX 7900 XTX and RX 7900 XT graphics cards would support DisplayPort 2.1, a new standard that would enable the creation of high refresh rate 8K monitors and ultra high refresh rate 4K displays. To sell the importance of DisplayPort 2.1, AMD also stated that Samsung plans to reveal a DisplayPort 2.1 compatible ultrawide monitor at CES 2023.

Samsung's next-generation Odyssey Neo G9 monitor will launch with DisplayPort 2.1 support, an 8K horizontal resolution and support for AMD's FreeSync variable refresh rate (VRR) technology. Currently, we expect this screen to feature a resolution of 2160 x 7680, making it a dual-wide 8K monitor. With DisplayPort 2.1,  Samsung's planned 8K Odyssey G9 monitor could support refresh rates as high a 240Hz, making it an absurdly fast ultrawide gaming monitor. In terms of raw pixel count, this screen will have half as many pixels as a proper 8K display, which would have a 4320 x 7680 pixel grid.

Samsung plans to officially reveal their "8K" Odyssey G9 display at CES 2023 in January. We expect to receive full specifications for this new gaming-oriented ultra-wide monitor at CES.

This is why AMD's inclusion of DP 2.1 on their next gen graphics cards was probably a better idea than NVIDIA. Of course I expect an 8K monitor to be priced very high.

8K FTW!!πŸ™ƒπŸ‘ Since it would be an introductory product 8K monitor, i am pretty sure will cost close or around the 1K price. I am more interesting in the monitor Latency and if they will be.jumping from 1440p to 2060p. πŸ€”

Those who abuse power, are nothing but scumbags! The challenge of power is how to use it and not abuse it. The abuse of power that seems to create the most unhappiness is when a person uses personal power to get ahead without regards to the welfare of others, people are obsessed with it. You can take a nice person and turn them into a slob, into an insane being, craving power, destroying anything that stands in their way.

Outside of actual desktop applications, for which ultra-widescreen is totally useless, I simply don't see the need for 8K.

I simply don't sit far enough back to benefit from such a resolution.
And in everything I play, I see NO BENEFIT from 8K, since NOTHING has any actual 8K content.

    And I'm currently rocking 6480x3840

    i'd have to agree

and even then, i'd rather have a 16:9 or 16:10 display than an ultrawide for productivity but I guess that would be 16k not 8k :P

still a cool concept though.  to make it usable, the screen would have to be massive.

Here's what the image looks like for Facebook on full-screen.

And here's what it looks like scaled down to 1920 wide via Photoshop.

Imagine trying to deal with that from 5 feet away on an 8K screen.

    Eh only 16:9.
I don't know why manufacturers keep thinking we wear Robocop helmets while gaming.

What naysayers are you talking about? No one ever said 8K wasn't coming, it has in fact been here for a while now with a few 8k (actual 8k) panels around for a few years. What Samgung is announcing INS'T actually 8k though. Did you even read or understand what you're cheering about? You so blindly what to praise anything that mentions AMD you don't even understand what you're praising. The monitor Samsung is introducing has HALF the pixels a proper 8K panel would.

You have it completely backwards. The closer you sit the more noticeable higher resolution becomes. It's further away that resolution matters less. If you sit at normal arms length to your PC monitor (approx 2ft) you will immediately notice a difference in sharpness of a higher resolution monitor. The further you sit back the less apparent resolution will be and the average person would be hard pressed to discern a 4k monitor from even a 1080p monitor at 8-10ft if both were displaying the same image.

Wait until you see the price to say it exists. I am guessing it will be more like a $5,000+ monitor and while 8K gaming will exist someday this will be more of a baby step in that direction instead of running because of the price. The refresh rate though could make it a thing that stays around for a while if it’s really 240hz.

Sorry, but you're confusing pixel density with resolution.
