Is my EVGA Supernova 1000 P5 good for an OC'd 4090? I bought this PSU in May in anticipation of the next-gen cards, and now I'm concerned it may not be a good fit because of the ATX 3.0 communication stuff.  Am I good to go with this PSU or do I need to spend another $200 for a different one?  Thanks.

Also, if it's fine, is there a better cable to get instead of using that 4-1 adaptor from Nvidia?

I'll be purchasing an ATX 3.0 PSU ....although to be honest, it won't be until I decide to update to the newer GPU's..
which won't be for a while.
I think it's a good idea to update, but regardless, since a 4090 can draw 650W ( I think? Correct me if I'm wrong )...
you might be a little light on the power.

AMD Ryzen 7900x3d
Deepcool LT720
Gigabyte Aorus Elite AX X670 (Might change..don't like this board)
eVGA GeForce RTX 3090 FTW3 Ultra Gaming (Hybrid kit on it)
Asus ROG Swift PG43UQ 4k Monitor
eVGA 1600W Supernova T2 PSU
32GB Kingston 6000 DDR5 (2x16GB) Fury
Corsair MP600 Pro 2TB (Boot)
Corsair MP600 2TB (Games/Data)
Phanteks P500A Case

A 1000 P5 will work just fine with the new 40 Series.  The cards will come with an adapter cable, which you will use to plug into the card and the power supply.  That's basically all you need to do.

Yeah I guess I will probably wait for AMD to release Navi31 if my psu won't be able to run it.  Most cards I've seen recommend a 850w PSU though, so we'll see.  I guess I could run it in conservative mode until new PSU's are out at reasonable prices.

Thanks Lee.  Glad to hear it.

sure...on a card that will draw 650W....you're ridin' the edge, imo.

Ok, so run it conservatively until new PSU's are out in reasonable pricing, and then bump it up next year.  Sounds like a plan.

Another issue facing Nvidia’s mammoth 40-series GPUs is. The 4090 has a TGP of 450 watts and recommendations call for an 850W power supply at minimum.
This is the exact same as the RTX 3090 Ti, and we thought it was a lot when that card first rolled out back in March.

An ATX 3.0 certified PSU with the 12 + 4 pin GPU cable will definitely help with cable management and efficiency, but it isn't mandatory for the 40 series.
