So I will start of by saying I bought a used x299 dark motherboard off of eBay. The gentleman did tell me it wasn’t posting anymore. I thought possibly he just bricked the bios so I bought a new bios chip and did install it. Now I am using a 10900x 4 sticks of Corsair vengeance rgb pro 3200mhz 4x8gb. On bios number one I get an e8 and 55 error code on the other 2 bios I get an instant df error code. Is it a possibility that the Ram I have isn’t compatible with the motherboard. I did order new g skill trident z sw sticks but I’m waiting on them to arrive. I did the typical troubleshooting with Ram. Tried one in every single slot and different sticks as well. I’m hopping to call evga tomorrow and see if they have the updated bios chip for sale. Fingers crossed. If anyone has any insight I greatly appreciate it thank you.

Did you get a good look at the socket and make sure you aren’t dealing with any bent pins or missing pins?

Have you also started with a single stick of ram in slot 3, as prescribed by the manual for the Dark board?

It is unlikely that the ram is just completely incompatible unless you are jumping straight to XMP without testing.

EVGA may be able to send over an updated bios chip, but by any chance have do you have access to a 7XXX cpu to update the bios just in case that is the issue, since you are on a 10900x?

I did inspect the cpu socket very throughly. No damage to the pins at all. I did do the single dimm in the 3rd slot. Still no post. I have tried to clear cmos on the 1st bios switch still no post even with one dimm.
I even pulled the cmos battery and replaced it with anew battery thinking it may have been that. No luck on that either.
Sadly I do not have access to 7000 series cpu to check it nor do any of my friends. I would hate to spend 100$ just to test it but I’m not totally against it.
The Ram I do have is running perfectly on my amd system so I do know they work. I’m new to the x299 platform above the memory slot there are a few leds that always stay white with or without a dimm installed. Should it light up only when a dimm is installed or maybe a different color. I’m not trying to sound simple just mainly looking for information. Thank you

If a new BIOs chip doesn't work I have this fear that the MB is bad.

Sadly I believe that you are right at least beyond the point where I could fix it. I’m going to call evga today and see if they still have any new bios chips. I have some new sticks of g skill trident coming in the mail this week. The previous owner did tell me before I bought it that the motherboard would boot up but only to the evga logo then it would freeze on him. I do know he used 7800x and 32gb of g skill.

I would be very curious about the traces and capacitors on the board, and see if maybe you can see anything that is off between the socket and the ram slots.

Sadly I had to leave town this morning so I won’t be back till Thursday. Once I get back hopefully my new dimms are here and I will still call evga this afternoon and see if they can get me a new bios. I will inspect the board better once I get back in town. I greatly appreciate the advice guys. I will post back once I get it figured out.

Wonderful! glad you were able to save it. Did you try it with the original ram as well or new Gskill? Either way this is great. Enjoy!!

I have just been using the gskill at the moment. I think if I get a chance once I get back in town Thursday I may give the vengeance sticks a try just to see if they work. Thank you
