I also saw that very informative Gamer Nexus video.

Keep in mind the bending on the adapter plug is severe bending close to the plug as when someone is trying to squeeze it into a tight space.
Which then causes an increase in resistance on the plug pins.

And most importantly it only occurred when constant max current was applied for 10 or more hours in a testing situation. That's 55 amps (660 watts) for 10 or more hours on pins misaligned due to bent cables. I can't think of any gaming session that would draw constant power for any length of time. It is constantly fluctuating load.

Sure it needs to be addressed but I 'm sure it would never come up for me. They need to make tighter female connectors to hold the pins tighter along the whole length of the pin. Or bigger pins.

However, the 30 connection cycles is a mystery to me.

Since the 40 Series cards have not been officially released, I can't give you a straightforward answer on that.  However, the purpose of the adapter is to work with existing power supplies that do not have the newer 12VHPWR cables.  As long as the adapter is installed properly, you shouldn't have anything to worry about.

I would be surprised if you don't see more than a few reviewers test current-gen power supplies with the 40 Series when they release to answer this question for people.  I'm sure we'll also say something directly about compatibility at some point, as well.

Yes, I'm hoping the reviews touch on this but given the fact that both the FE and AIB cards will most definitely be OC'd, the added headroom is crucial and so a 1600W PSU should suffice, but I'm not sure of the connector/adapter situation. Pushing 3x 8-pin to one adapter seems sketchy to me.

I'm hoping the reviews really push their samples and not test the 4090 at stock clocks/power at 1080P like most of them do.

I thought I heard that the higher OC'd or high OC capable cards will have 2 12+4 pin connectors. Anything over 660W will demand it. I would say anything over 600W for a safety margin which would give a 5 amp buffer.

I heard reviewers say that Nvidia is not enabling overclocks that high until more PSU makers have caught up to the needs. I have no idea if that's true.

The only thing i would really start to be worried about are these ridiculous 12+4 to 4 x 8pin PCI-e adapters, there's a lot of controversy floating a round with there lifecycle.

Since there is some sort of misconception regarding the lifecycles of the adapters, let me point out that the 30 cycles limit is on the 12+4 12vhpwr connector. This is regardless if you use an adapter or or not.

keep in mind also, the two way communications on the 4-pin - stops GPU from asking more Watts that PSU can deliver

Is EVGA at least going to release a new 16-pin cable with 4x 8-pin connectors on the PSU side for the 1600T2? The radio silence on the cable and the ATX 3.0 PSU from EVGA is a bit worrisome.

EDIT: I went ahead and ordered a couple of 16-pin - to - 4x 8-pin cables from CableMod as well.

For what it's worth, we're pretty much radio silent on just about everything we release until either an embargo lifts or we're ready to announce stuff.

Hello guys. Since the embargo is lifted and the reviews are out. Can we have official information that Evga PSU (mine is SuperNova 1600 T2 + sleeved cable kit) is compatible with 4090 ? Are there plans on releasing an official Evga cable (similar to perFE cable) just like what is shared above from CableMod ?

Yes, GeForce RTX 4090 cards are compatible with the 1600 T2, including our sleeved cable kits, provided you use the adapter that comes with the 4090 card.

Re: Any reason to worry about current gen PSU for next gen graphics cards? 2022/10/25 02:11:43 (permalink)
well, i guess currently owning one of the best 1440p 240Hz LCDs, EVGA's z690 MOBO, and just a 3090 is a big time blessing;
because i just finished watching ALL of the following vid:

The 12VHPWR cable is DANGEROUS! But NVIDIA doesn't agree... (Edit: JayzTwoCents Oct 24, 2022)

so my conclusions, for now are that i think i'll first upgrade to:
Alienware AW3423DW LCD.

This isn't Sponsored. - QD-OLED Monitors Rule! - YouTube
Edit:
Techspot Links:
Alienware AW3423DW 34" QD-OLED Monitor Review
The Best Gaming Monitors - Mid 2022 Update

i'll suffer with slower FPS, but at least the display will be top notch! anyone in my boat i highly recommend an Alienware AW3423DW over a 4090, because an AW3423DW is only $1,299. Just stand back and watch the smoke (ouch!lol as bad pun ever) settle and enjoy a fantastic LCD instead. And note, that in Spring of '22, they acted like by the end of '22, ppl would be seeing more Gaming OD-OLEDs. (Note: mine has to be G-Sync Ultimate like this Alienware AW3423DW is.) But i'm not seeing any. At least the Alienware AW3423DW LCDs have had plenty of road testing and they seem to be doing extremely well after six or so months. So that's a plus. I'd like a flat 27 inch one, but i will have to suffer.lol

Big but...
an EVGA ATX 3.0 PSU, the minuet they come out; is a definite, absolute, instant purchase! if they make them. they deserve the support!

and anyone want to question EVGA not selling the 40 series? they're true scholars at EVGA i tell u!

What a beautiful vid card!
Based on what Jayz says in ^^ Vid, in regards to any 4090, still, being questionable if not more now, plug overheating-wise, I'm still going to hold off on getting one. Though I'm still preparing anyways, in case there's a concrete answer/solution in weeks months from now. But like at the top of this post, where I stated how using only a 1440p monitor (one of the very best ones) is a a lucky thing now; because if I already had a great 4K monitor I'd be bummed out not having a 4090.

Yep. When you plug in something always confirm it is fully connected. In order, to confirm it is fully connected, always do a visual inspection of it -- plus always having handy small flashlight(s) around is a must for the visual inspection part -- and then, try very very carefully to disconnect it in a way that nothing is harmed, but its confirmed to be fully connected. (Hold the plug and what its connected to, and never pull on any cables.) Then rinse and repeat at least one time if not twice.
