Well I thought I could maybe try all the TIM applications to see what one was best besides the X and this EK AIO. Well none of them cooled as good, sadly I should had left my AIO alone. It seems I got one shot to put on the AIO, now the lid of the CPU warped/bowing. So I am going to have to do the M4 1mm washer mod to my motherboard's LGA cpu mount to drop it about 5c... Has anyone done this yet, what washers did you buy? Was hoping to find something in plastic but it seems like metal is the only choice...

If you don't have any in your parts collection, here is a quick listing Amazon and also Lowe's has them.

Yeah was half asleep when I wrote it, there is no de-lidding going on. Just the Z690 motherboards 1700 cpu mounting bracket has to come off and is causing the lid on the 12th gens. Solution is to put 2x m4 1mm washers down. Have to get the right size washers. There are a lot of them out there at various widths for m4 1mm.

Yeah I saw all of those, have to get the right width. Figured I would ask here in case someone knows. I can buy a bunch of M4 1mm washers all day and maybe still get some that are too wide.

The last time I needed something like this, is just hit all the places I knew with one in hand and lucked out on my second stop, Home Depot.  I only had to buy a pack of eight.

It's important to understand when to apply the washer mod. Its mostly needed when there's too much tension on the CPU pins.

Yes I know the question is what 1mm M4 washer fits under the mount there are a variety of them at different widths… it is needed and my cpu is bowed in the middle a little bit after taking my AIO off. Temps are now 5-7c hotter after multiple tim applications. Want to get some none metal ones.

You could just measure the diameter of the bracket screw and get that...

Home Depot sells #6/#8 x 0.032in Everbilt fiber washers.  Little less than 1mm thickness.  #8 is a little loose but should work.  Picking up #6 for tighter tolerance.

Once the IHS is warped, does the mod somehow straighten it again, or is it permanently warped until you decide to void the warranty and lap the IHS?

All the mod does is relieve some clamp down force on the tabs.  Since the OE IHS is copper, I would think the concave shape would be retained.  The #6 fiber washers are the perfect fit.  Hope I have some time to assemble everything this weekend.

Igor's lab tested using an already bent ihs and still had good results. At the end of the day, it's a cheap and easy mod that, if it doesn't work, can be reversed if need be. Best thing ATM would probably be to buy one of debauer's kits that allows you lap the ihs in an acrylic frame that uses his locking mechanism replacement.

People here should report in with results after doing the mod.  Paying those exorbitant prices for der8auer's stuff would be nice to avoid.

My response was referring only to the #8 or #6 washer fitment.  Based on anecdotal and SM, washer mod results vary.  I think Jayz and Luumi has relevant observations on their washer mod findings.  Delidding seems to help the most with 12th gen.

For those truly concerned. I have done a few builds on the ASUS Strix Z690-A D4 and the washer mod hasn't been needed. Delidding is huge though. I just did a 12600K that hit 5.3P/4.3E at 81C peak temp. Insane chip.

I had spent oh months buying tons of different washers, even got the tool to measure them, they were not exactly 1mm or if they were they had imperfections that would puncture the board.

The bracket I ordered on Aliexpress about 3 weeks ago before you posted.
Got it in the day before yesterday. In almost 24hrs the lid is almost fully corrected, idle temps are 22-28c per core, the load temps are 45-65c per core I just saw for the first time ever in CP 2077 34-38c.... Benching 65-76c per core. Believe later in the evening today the lid should be fully flattened again or at least I hope so at the current rate and my own guessing.
I did have a bad bow though saw it on my metal ruler I was hitting 80-90c at max even when gaming while my office turned into a hot mess.
Sucks I could not find the washers... smh but this thing for 10 bucks cannot complain it is doing way better than I expected on correcting the lid bow, and lowering temps. The torque screws yeah if you tighten them down just a little too much. Then the board will not fire up, pretty much only tighten to the point you first feel any resistance then stop.

This was after almost 24hrs, I was topping out at 70-80c in CP 2077, and idling at 50-55c per core...
idles
22-28c per core
45-65c per core with sometimes core 2 right now going off into higher temps think that area is still being straightened.

After 48hrs or so, I am seeing the 30c's range from time to time for the first time ever in game on multiple cores randomly with DLSS cranked to quality instead of Performance so a little more stress on my system now than before. Tellling me my lid was a tiny bit bent on the initial upgrade build. This correction bracket works and if it works so must the washer mod like the guy who initially introduced it claimed.

Might want to take a look at this thread:

another option (cheaper) from Thermalright - lots of these on EBay for around $10 or so.

video about it:

Scroll up, since I bought hundreds of washers and could not find ones exactly 1mm and flawless/no defects… So bought the Thermalright solution as it became available on Aliexpress, it’s also on Newegg now as well. It's amazing, Ty for sharing though I’ll head to that post.

Yeah I saw after, but left the post up anyway since there are a couple of options, and the video from derBauer is helpful, explaining why and how.

I've ordered one of the Thermalright ones, although I may not end up using it. I'll swap over to it when EK release the blocks for the 3090Ti if it looks like the CPU needs it.

The frame would only work with the stock IHS, right?  Looks to be a tight fit to the stock IHS.   I got mine delidded and replaced with the full copper RockiCool IHS.  I think it's a little bigger.

The frame should only impact the edges as far as fit, so I would think the RockitCool IHS should be similar size as the Intel stock IHS, as it would still need to fit under the stock Lotes if you weren't using a third party frame. I wonder though... a tenth of a mm could make all the difference. I don't have the exact dimension specs.

edit: yeah you're right.. the RockitCool has indentations to fit the Lotes holder. Look at the difference: ..also the RockitCool doesn't have the flange all the way around, so using a frame might not make any difference.
