Hi guys,
This is my first post to ask for help to fix my issue. I just finished a my first desktop build 5 days ago. I used a benchmark tool and tested the GPU and achieved comparable score to a normal 3090. I also used Norton mining to just see if the mining power is OK since what I bought is a B stock GPU just want to check if it's good. During last 5 days, I only used this desktop to install machine learning tools I needed for my hobby.
Last night, when I was watch Youtube. My desktop suddenly restarted. I thought this could be a GPU issue. So I ran the benchmark tool again. I got way lower score(190fps dropped to 30fps) and then I ran Norton mining I got (25MH instead of 100MH when I tested 4 days ago).
I followed a post in this forum to 1. perform clean boot. 2. Uninstall X1 precision, all drivers and reinstall. 3. Change to debug mode. 4. Reset my OS reinstall everything. So far, nothing helped. If you have seen similar issue, can you please share your advice for troubleshooting? Thank you!
Below is the spec, everything is brand new except this GPU:
OS: Windows 10 Pro 64 bit
CPU: AMD Ryzon 9 5900X
GPU: EVGA GeForce RTX 3090 FTW3 ULTRA GAMING (B-Stock)
MB: ASUS Prime Pro X570
RAM: XPG D45 64GB 3600MHZ
PSU: EVGA 1600G+
SSD: WD 1TB NVME M2.
Cooling: 2 FAN CPU AIO on the top, 2 front intake fans, 1 back fan

Sounds like the card isn’t running at the proper clocks. Does enabling boost lock in x1 make the card clock up.

Hi Sajin, Thanks for your response! This is my first time learning tech spec of GPU. I got high score in benchmark using default setting. But now, with overclocking, I see much worse performance. Please see below screenshots. My benchmark score for GPU used to be 860000 now it is 184117.

Yep, looks like your gpu isn’t clocking up like it should. 300 MHz isn’t going to cut it. Try another vbios by moving the vbios selector switch on the card. You could also try reseating the card to the motherboard as well.

I did reseat the GPU and restart desktop but still performance doesn't change...

If you overclock too high and it crashes, the clocks will lock around 300 MHz and the score will be low. That is normal behavior. What happens if you stop overclocking, reboot the computer, and don't have it boot up with an overclock automatically applied at bootup? Back to normal?

Do you know how to unlock the clock? I was able to do it by uninstall X1 Precision. I got into the same issue today. Anytime I install X1 precision, the GPU clock will be locked max at 1200. I want to keep it to be able to control GPU LED.

It looks like you've tried to put a +1000 core clock and a +1129 memory clock overclock on there. Those are not going to work. I mean, maybe memory, but not on the core. It's also reporting 235% power draw and no fan activity...I'm quite confused. Edit: To be clear. Set the "clock" under "GPU" to 0. Set "clock" under "memory" to 0. Or hit the "default" button at the bottom, then hit apply.

Is 210 common? I guess I don't know how exactly GPU works. Nvidia driver/control setting is how GPU works, I have control setting set as max performance. so when I run benchmark, I would expect GPU computation speed to its max or as demanded not limited by power assuming power supply is good. In addition, I check the parameters of this GPU using GPUZ. It's showing default GPU clock and mem clock which is even higher than what X1 precision is allowing me to change to limited at 1200Mhz. I checked the sensor plot of GPU performance during benchmark testing. The GPU clock is locked at 210Mhz with me have boost disabled. Am I missing anything here? I have used DDU and reinstalled driver and test old driver as well. Nothing changes the behavior of this GPU.

210 at idle is normal. 210 under load/in game isn’t normal.

I have tried to set everything to be 0 and hit default. Oddly, the power supply never changed. It's always at 235%. I tried to reinstall and delete the EVGA folder trick as well.

Just a note on those boxes in Precision where you're trying to set clocks. Those are clock offsets, not actual clock speeds. So when you type "1200" in, it tries to add a +1200MHz overclock. When you put "1000" on GPU clock, it tries to add +1000 to the core clock. Putting 0 in both of those sets it to default, aka no overclock. That's different to the power slider, which by default should be at 100%.

I don't think an RMA is the right thing to do at this point. Remember that if you crash it with a crazy overclock, you need to reboot before it will behave normally again. It's going to act all sorts of weird until you remove the crazy overclock and reboot. I think you need to figure out how to overclock before you try to RMA it. You said it works fine when you aren't trying to overclock it, so why RMA it?
