My PSU is the EVGA SuperNOVA 850 G3, 80 Plus Gold 850W (220-G3-0850-X1) and is currently running my EVGA GTX 1080 SC. My mobo is EVGA z170 Classified K, CPU is 6700k (I know, it's a little long in the tooth...I'M WORKING ON IT!). Next week my new EVGA GeForce RTX 3080 FTW3 Ultra Gaming GPU (10G-P5-3897-KL) arrives. Yay!
The 1080 only needs one 8 pin power cord from the PSU but the 3080 needs three. Should I have three separate 8 pin power cords feed to it or is one single 8 pin cable along with a second 8 pin + 8 pin pigtail cable good enough? I've read all sorts of things saying the pigtail is fine and others say, no. I'm thinking that this particular GPU might do better with three individual cables given its power demands, but I'm not sure (I have just enough knowledge to be dangerous!).
The reason for NOT wanting to use three separate cables is I would have to use one of the pigtailed cables and tie off the unused 8 pin connector. Looks sloppy!
The reason FOR wanting to use three separate cables is I want to do it correctly from the start. Properly running GPU=GOOD! Fried GPU for RMA=BAD!
Any input is appreciated.
