Ever since the RTX 3070 launched, people have been complaining about the GPU's 8GB frame buffer. Simply put, some games run better with graphics cards that feature more VRAM at 4K, with DOOM Eternal being a prime example. Beyond that, those who are looking at the RTX 3070 Ti as a video editing or workstation graphics card also see utility in a RTX 3070 model with a larger frame buffer.

A lot of time has passed since Nvidia launched their original RTX 3070 graphics card, with their Ti model offering users a bandwidth upgrade with GDDR6X memory. Now, 2GB GDDR6X chips are available from Micron, and it looks like Nvidia's planning to start releasing 16GB RTX 3070 Ti GPUs, offering users a 2x increase in VRAM capacity. Thanks to @Momomo_us on Twitter, we can see that Gigabyte's working on multiple new Geforce RTX series graphics cards, including RTX 3090 Ti models and a 16GB RTX 3070 Ti Gaming OC graphics card.

Currently, AMD's Radeon RX 6800/6900 series graphics cards offer gamers large 16GB frame buffers, and Intel's rumoured ARC Alchemist gaming flagship is also due to launch with a large 16GB frame buffer. Simply put, Nvidia's competition knows that VRAM requirements are rising, and graphics cards that target 4K Ultra settings will need more than 8GB of VRAM moving forward.

Nvidia needs a 16GB RTX 3070 Ti to answer the industry's call for 4K capable graphics cards with more VRAM. Beyond that, Nvidia should allow their competitors to benefit from their lack of a 16GB RTX 3070 Ti model.

NVIDIA has been a bit lax on getting higher level of memory on their mid-tier video cards. AMD's thinking on this is far ahead of NVIDIA.

I think there were also supply shortfalls for 2GB GDDR6X.  We just might see a 3070 Ti 16GB by March.  Of course it will cost more and availability will be as always these days.

I also think that NVIDIA and AMD could announce end of production for the numerous SKUs that haven't moved in six months, but I know they won't.

I hope it doesn't add too much to the price. an interesting graphics card, it will reduce bottlenecks in 4k
