After upgrading to w11 I let MSI set the clock for performance. Ran Cinebench and just thermal throttled for the 30 min run.  Clearly its more stable than it was in W10 for me.  Now I just need to replace either my Fractal Torrent or processor. Its clear anything above base clock in a i9-12900k will need water cooling.  I should have preordered one of the lain li 011 evo cases.

On my bench test set-up I'm using a Corsair H100i 240 AIO.....running R23 I reach 84c - 86c on a few cores. 360 AIO or custom loop is what these CPU's require...
Initially I was seeing up to 94c on those same "hot cores", but I used the stock grease that came on the heatsink...(Corsair pre-applied), took it apart and used hydronaut and got the temps down substantially.

I wouldnt consider anything less than a 360 aio for the 12900K.

Bit of a beast. Similar heft as the Optimus Signature V2 - that block is milled from a single 3.25lb block of brass.. and it feels like it!

Yeah compared to Velocity and Supremacy its massive...will be interesting to see how the new mounting mechanism goes from the back-side of the Board.
One thing I like with that Optimus Block is the wide spacing between in / out ports.....lost of room for fittings....looks like it will be tight on the Velocity 2 for my Bits Power rotaries.
Anyone know if Optimus ships to Canada?

The new mounting mechanism is dead simple to use. The springs are internal and the bolts are captive... easy peasy!

Ha, my kids are grown so upgrading my pc these days is way cheaper. Then again maybe my single pc upgrade was more than building three pc's 6 years ago.
Just know your son will enjoy the extra speed and bling a new pc brings.  I sure miss being able to do that for my kids. Both make their own way now and have systems that fit what they need.

Lets hope mining crypto fades away in the coming years. The idea that a top end card cost more than a full system did a few years ago is crazy.

I have 2 kids. My Son who is a PC gamer like his old man, and my daughter who uses a 10 inch MacBook...(not sure where I went wrong with this one.)

This weekend I will be upgrading his PC and is the first time he has expressed any interest in the hardware.  I hope it might be the start something good.

I have been hip deep in hardware since 1991 and would love to pass the torch.

yeah it is wild that they didn't figure this out before shipping, but maybe it is partially by design? i wonder if the tension dissipates over a few months and things level out naturally? guess we'll see (prob not me though, i hardly have the same chip mounted on the bench for more than a few weeks at a time) - ideally by the time these make their way in to my daily builds this issue will have a more concrete fix. nylon washers are very cost effective, tho :D

I noticed my arctic freezer II 360 wasnt making complete contact on the full heat spreader. It was more so in the center of the die. Could be this washer fix is what is necessary. 5c is a lot on the grand scale of things.

My Setup
-ASUS PG259QN, XG248Q
-Lian Li 011 Dynamic
-MSI Z490 Meg Ace
-10900K 5.2GHZ

-Artic Freezer II 360MM
-16GB Viper 4400MHZ
-3080 TI Founders

-EVGA 750 P2

Did my build right when released.  For gaming, their is literally no difference ddr4 or ddr5.  So I ended up with a z690 board and ddr4 at 4000.  Work's great.  I also decided to use EK's 360 AIO cooler.  To say the least I am impressed with the design and pump design.  Specs in sig.

As a side note, I have found for games, OC'ing just not worth it.  If I loved bench scores and competed there yes.  But I just look at those causally to make sure my rig is preforming on par with others of similar hardware.  By setting the oc to 5.5 all cores, the heat production was dramatic.  A few points here and there in cinebench as expected.  But in game.  Nope.   Good thing at stock with my build, it is silent gaming.  And I enjoy that.

Thats the same kit Im presently using....running at 6000 / Cl 36.....5800 was no problem at all to get stable, been running tests all day at 6000 / cl36, seems fine, decent chips (thought they were Micron but they are actually Samsung).
Took a little voltage tweaking VDD n VDDQ, SA and IMC......may try 6200 cl36 or leave em at 6000 and tighten timings....

Nice seeing all the ram available. I’m not gonna get any just yet, though. I got a double confirm yesterday on an EVGA twitch feed with Jacob that the classy “should” be released next week. But how long before it’s in my actual hands? I ordered an 8gb patriot to at least test the system. Once slapped together and running I can only hope the faster DDR5 will be a little cheaper.

Why do you need to replace the Torrent to watercool? I have Torrent with Arctic 420 and 12900k and temps close to those of a custom loops. It is a tight fit, no modding the case. Just cant use 1 of the bottom 140mm fan as you can see in pic. Bottom filter not on in pic. Fan just there for mem oc testing DR b die 4133c15 gear 1.

Had the 12900kf on Raystorm with 1151 mount and temps were 15c higher. Didnt try adding washer to increase mounting pressure of the block so bought a used AIO for $100 from Amazon and great results for the money.

In stock right now at Corsair: 2x16GB Corsair Dominator Platinum RGB 5600MHz C36 $429.99 (link)
https://www.corsair.com/us/en/Categories/Products/Memory/DOMINATOR-PLATINUM-RGB-DDR5-Memory---Black/p/CMT32GX5M2X5600C36

Looking good rj,

6000MHz CR1 @1.43v timings are one hour Karu stable, on the 4800 Dell bars.

6200MHz CR1 profile is also one hour Karu stable @1.43v,..

6400MHz CR1 CL36 will boot Windows @1.43v but not stable, going to need to enable high memory voltage to get above 6200MHz with the Dell bars.

Impressive....those Dell Hynix kits are outstanding.

I think at this point rather than try and push these Samsungs to higher frequency, perhaps I'll try tightening to 34-35-35 ....or 34-34-34...1T .....I havent tried Karu yet....I have been somewhat figuring if it can get thru an hour or so of Memtest along with my other benchmark programs should be ok. It was Memtest that detected the instability initially with just XMP loaded.
I havent tried any of the Asus pre-loaded Memory profiles yet either.
Going to hit some Valhalla and see how that goes!

This should probably go under build section, but hey its Z690....just wanted to show there is only a few mm clearance between the outside edge of the Velocity 2 block and the inside DIMM on the Apex Board....very close...

Also, everyone likes seeing an Evga 3080Ti FTW3 torn apart...I must say, the paste, putty and pads on this refurb Card I got back from Evga is like hardened ceramic...I kid you not.
I spent an hour or so cleaning prior to installing block.

My other 3080 (I sold off) and the 3080Ti I had to send back (pop n poof red light district), the pads, putty n grease were very pliable.
Obviously this refurb / replacement card had never been torn apart....

A quick 2 min OC using IXTU just prior to tearing this thing apart on the bench...went for 8 core x52 6 cores x 53 and 4 cores x54....offset voltage -.050v to keep temps in check....remember this is just a cheap 240 aio...took nothing at at to have P Cores runing at 5.2 and E Cores at 4.0....
Corsair was OC'd to 6000 c36

Will be draining loop tomorrow, remove Maximus XI-E / 9900k....install Z690 Board, fill loop and leak test, should be able to boot up in the case day after tomorrow ;)

Z690 Classy showing now... either all stock sold out in seconds, or it's notify only.

I really hope it just went straight to notify only when it listed on product page.
