Will there be a chance to get a noraml 3080 still or is that dream gone?

I was waiting out on getting a new graphics card since my little 1080Ti is still going fairly strong, but I've had this since 2017 and if this thing dies, I'm screwed. With that being a slight worry here, I was watching the stocks of the normal 3080 and when the rumors of the slight memory bump to 12gb started floating around I was going to wait around for that since I hoped that it wasn't going to be a huge bump in price. Well a $450 bump is way more than I'm willing to spend, I'm back to now wondering if the normal 3080 queue will open back up again or is that a dead dream all together? I was looking at the normal 3080 or the hybrid at most since you guys already charge way over MSRP for the card as it is (I'm running the hybrid 1080ti now and like it). I'm starting to think that I'm never going to get the standard 3080 anymore and going to be forced into this 12gb card or wait out to start the wait all over with the 4k series card.

I would just wait for 40x0 cards at this point. If your card dies just get like a 1650 super and just play at 1080p for a little.

Your best bet is to physically camp a Best Buy or Microcenter drop, or get an Ant Online bundle, for a 3080.  NE shuffle is a long shot though possibly better in the last few weeks with mining profits being down.  Imho a 3080 Ti FTW3 bundle for a bit over $1600 is worth it, it's considerably stronger than a 3080.

Im still watching best buy and stuff like that and looked at the newegg shuffle, but 1600 is a lot more than I can spend right now since prices of everything for me is going up except my pay =P

I believe that Nvidia has already begun winding down making the original 3080 chip to sell to vendors.... it's much more profitable to sell them the newer, more expensive version.

Antonline bundles or newegg shuffle is probably best bet  , just short of paying for an entire new system from builder companies that get all the products...

Well then I would just concentrate on your 1080 Ti not breaking, even though they are in general very durable high end cards, so monitor it and make sure it's kept cool. I'd say to clean the fans and heatsink, but don't replace paste/pads unless they are really bad.

It's about as strong as a 2070S or 3060 or 6600 XT, so if you're still gaming at 1080P or even 1440P, you should be just fine.

I would bet the 3080 10G will be discontinued all together. They probably stopped making them a bit ago and have just been using up the last of the chips made. Actually, didn't Nvidia stop making chips a couple months ago saying they have "filled all their obligations for 2021"?

They probably changed the etcher to print the new part number and started cutting off a few less CUs back then and have been making the new versions since then?

I have a feeling this is true. I think the signs were pointing to this towards the end of 2021 and then with the release of the 12GB, that seems to be more likely. They're most likely just going to upgrade the current line up to +2GB and then release the S-versions in a couple of months

The dream isn’t gone completely. I just bought a 3080FTW3 card today from the EVGA queue. And it’s even FHR.

It may not be. I do believe some LHR 3080 went out under the KR nomenclature.
If it says "LHR" or "LowHash Rate" on the outside of the box, then it is LHR
If LHR is not printed on the box then it is FHR.

They are probably finishing up the 30x0 supers and starting on printing the 40x0 cards. Remember it takes a lot of time to trickle down to the customers.

LHR = light hash rate, FHR = full hash rate. LHR are nerfed card for mining. In my opinion a really scummy move by NVIDIA that does not solve anything but just a gimmick. Miners still buy the cards and virtually it does nothing useful but hurt the hobby miner who just mines on their gaming pc.

I agree, the LHR cards are still being bought up and mined with.  If anything it drove the prices for FHR cards up even higher.

Also maybe miners need even more cards since the LHR don't produce as much, so they buy more.

That's the only reason the 12gb version was created and Nividia did such a low key launch with strict NDA for content creators/reviewers.  Watch the 3080 10gb will be phased out asap just like non LHR cards.

3080Ti got KR skus due to timing of the change.

But all 3080 LHR skus have been KL. This is a 3080 KR.

I would not bet on that.
Lets see when you get it in hand

update. I got the card in hand. it's a KR sku, and no LHR markings on the box. it's FHR just as I expected.

Good deal, I wonder if they got a batch back from a distributor that could not sell them all.
Maybe they are letting go some they put aside for warranty, or are getting to the back/bottom on the stack
and that's all that's left since they are no longer making them.

I know when I did my step=up from a 2080s to the 3080FTW3 ultra it was when the switch over happened.
I was sent a xxxxxx-KR and made sure to check the box for LHR printed on it. They were saying it could be either.
Was very relieved when it came and did not have LHR. Not that I mine on it but just wanted FHR

i think the PCBs (they are different than non-HC PCBs) have been completed since before the switch to LHR. I had heard a rumor that the main issue with the supply of the HC cards was the waterblock availability, so it could be an explanation as to why some FHR cards still exist in these HC skus.

They wont want to make as many 3080s when they could be making more off of their marked up 3080 ti and 3090s

Mine is about to go on its second RMA depending on how the ticket will be answered....so I don't count on them being around too much longer.

I personally think it's kind of needed still because of the price jump from a 3070Ti to a 3080 12GB. If they get rid of the 3080 you open up to AMD a $999 price point.

Well just wait for the 3070 Super with 12GB DDR6X, MSRP $999

I'm joking, I have no info at all of any such thing.
