My issue is that 1 out of 3 fans on my 3080 FTW3 Ultra (10G-P5-3897-KR) has failed completely. This is not great for temperatures as you might imagine. My reseller has offered to replace it with whatever 3080 they first receive meaning some random LHR card (resale value seems to still be significantly less on these). EVGA support seemingly offer me to send the card in for replacement, haven't gotten a definitive answer if I would get a LHR version back or not. I asked for just a replacement fan but that was not possible it seems.

Since shipping the card to EVGA would be comparatively expensive (about 1/2 to 2/3 of what 400-HY-1978-B1 would cost me) I figured I might as well replace the entire cooler, the warranty as such should still remain intact if I have understood things correctly. Unfortunately the version that lists my card as compatible is out of stock everywhere. I don't see any difference between the two besides RGB which I don't care for at all (i would turn it off if I had it, the case is a Fractal Define R6 with no windows on the floor so nothing to look at).

Does anyone have experience or reliable sources if I could buy the cheaper non-RGB version that is readily available and have it fit my card OK? These are the two coolers I'm talking about, don't have enough posts to post direct links yet:
400-HY-1978-B1 (doesn't say it fits my card but hope it does)
400-HY-1988-B1 (would fit but not available and more expensive for the pleasure of having to turn off RGB?)

    That seems like a deal breaker, thanks I hadn't noticed from the specs and I've only ever had my cards in my hands so never had anything to compare to. Thanks even if it wasn't the answer I was hoping for.

    wish I had better news ...

    fyi - to find the size difference look at the specs for the two Types of Cards XC3 & FTW3 .... Not the specs for the AIO kits

    XC3 = Height: 4.38 in - 111.15mm

    FTW3 = Height: 5.38 in - 136.75mm

    Or

    You could also take the stock fan off, get out the duct tape and slap a fan on. Lots of options to fix it if you aren't worried about looks.

    If you aren't mining, I would bet you could swap that 3080 for a new 3080Ti pretty easily, even with the broken fan. If you are mining, the hybrid runs the memory really hot and the air cooler is probably better.

    That deshroud mod with 3xNoctuas looks like a pretty nice, I'm a bit sensitive to noise and if that could help with that it'd be an upgrade even if thermals stay the same. I can get those fans for less than it costs me to ship the card to EVGA's RMA center in Germany so it's a cheaper option. Thanks for the suggestion(s).

    Not having to ship anything off and still keep the warranty as long as I have the original parts also appeals. Trading for a 3080 TI sounds brilliant if it were easy but I just couldn't be bothered for the same reason, it's too much of a hassle.

    Also, thanks for the PM offer of buying a FTW3 AIO kit. Unfortunately I can't even reply via PM yet as I don't have 10 posts. Hard to know the cost or estimate shipping unless there's a location and currency given. I'm in Sweden and would unlikely to be buy anything at close to retail price outside of EU because of TAX and customs fees.

    I picked these up on Amazon but haven't been able to verify they fit. Might come in use though for you.

    i am very sensitive to noise, kind of an on the spectrum thing for me. the hybrid is great once i put on noctua a12 fans. i set them to 55 percent and card doesnt get over 60. the noise from the stock cooler was driving me nuts. and the evga fans for the hybrid are not good and have a bad sound profile.

    I don't think that fits EVGA cards (or my FTW3 anyway). Others seem to have come to the same conclusion, the name of the connector (I can't post direct links yet) is "Yeonho SMH200-NN 4 pins" it seems, there's a good thread with pictures and a sourcing link on smallformfactor dot net

    Don't know, it came up in their configurator under accessories for 30 series cards.

    I ended up doing the second Noctua mod linked above, albeit with the classic beige Noctua fans which match the rest of my case fans (not that they are visible anyway). Brilliant mod, it's quieter than before while running a bit cooler than stock ever did and the stock cooler is 100% intact (except for the third fan which was of course already broken in my case) and could be remounted if I end up having to send the card in for some more serious failure. I run the fans connected to the fan 4 header available on the card, ordered some connectors for the standard headers but they'll arrive in some weeks from China if I'm lucky and I'm not sure I'll bother taking things apart again, it works well as it is.

    All in all it cost me 3 Noctua fans and some zip-ties which worked out to less than just RMA-shipping and I get to keep the Noctua fans.

    I definitely see the point of the Noctua edition fans some manufacturers produce

    Well, can confirm they don't fit. EK needs to fix that in their website. Not sure what you mean by individual 4-pins though as that's what those are. Right size, they are just keyed wrong. Could possibly remove the keys and make them work.
