I noticed the complaints on these forums and Amazon reviews of people who complained about fried parts mainly sata SSD's  for those who mixed cables. I want to get a a cable extension kit for a larger ATX mid tower for good cable management. However I'm not sure why if different pin placement on cables requires you get compatible replacement cables why the same is not true for an extension kit. Cablemod has a compatibility chart for replacement cable but not extension kits.

A little help please! Thank you!

Not sure, but I wouldn't get extension kits. Just buy replacement cables that are longer.

The pinouts on extension cables are 1:1 so that they match the Intel industry-standard component-end pinout of PSU cables.

Extension cables are just that..They match the PSU cables but are just extensions of them.

Where people run into a problem is when they don't use the right cables that plug into the PSU..That's when things can get shorted out/fried.

Ok still a little confused because if there is an industry standard not sure how it gets affected. Someone complained on this forum that they went from a G+ to a G5 and it shorted on them? Same PSU wattage and SuperNove brand/model?

The component-end of cables is Intel industry-standard pinout..The PSU-end of cables does not have to be industry-standard, there's no requirement for that..PSU manufacturers can and do have different pinouts on the PSU end, but the component end has to be the same..Extension cables are a 1:1 extension of the Intel industry-standard component-end pinout.

Were they using extensions or were they using a sleeved/replacement cable kit.

If extensions, then no idea other than perhaps user error or wires swapped.   Replacement cables, then the PSU side pin out is likely different from the G+ to the G5.

The industry standard applies at the component side of the pin out.  But different PSU manufacturers have different pin outs at the PSU side.

different PSU models can have different pin-outs even from the same MFG

as stated in a post above .... the device end of the cables - follow the standard that hardware is built to.

it is the "custom" PSU end of modular cables - that gets people into trouble - when they Mix cable sources

Ok I understand although I find it rather weird not to bother to have it standard across the board.

One last question since this is the first modular PSU I will have owned. I'm assuming the PSU cables that come with the PSU are clearly labeled which end plugs into the PSU and which the component or am I still getting it wrong?

Ok so I just got the PSU in. I have a set of sata, which end is which is obvious,  a set of periphial which includes a molex adapter for a 4 pin fan hub also obvious. I have a 24 pin MB which has one end labled PSU, so obvious. I have a CPU with one end CPU and the other G5 so obvious as well I guess. But then we come to the VGA which there are two cables both say VGA on both ends, only one end is 8 pin and the other side 6x2. I'm assuming the 6x2 is the GPU side since a 6x2 connector can service a card with a 6 pin or 8 pin layout.

Bare with me folks I just spent $1000 on parts for this build and absolutely do not want to accidentally blow it up especially the GPU which came dear.

Had to dig out some cables to confirm, but they should be labeled on both sides.  But they will only be labeled for which component plug they are pinned for.   VGA, CPU, SATA, MB, Perif, etc.

As you mentioned, SATA is obvious, as is the 24 pin.

The EP/CPU pin is labeled for what it is, but not direction of connection.  Though it really doesn't matter on that or the GPU cables, it's still fairly easy to distinguish between the PSU and component end.

CPU cables will have an 8 pin and a 4 pin x 4 pin.  8 pin connector goes to the PSU.     Similar situation with the GPU cables.   They will have an 8 pin and a 2 pin x 6 pin connector.  Again, the 8 pin goes to the PSU.

Thank you for the confirmation order in a set of CableMod Pro extensions to do my build this weekend.
