A recent Twitter post has revealed that Santa Claus will in fact be coming to town, at least in the form of a Battlefield 2042 skin. Some people are—both surprisingly and unsurprisingly—very mad about this. Surprising because...well, it’s Santa, and it’s weird to get mad at a kind old man). But it’s unsurprising because the ever visible (and ceaselessly vocal) hand of the Gamer™ market will always find a new thing to get riled at.

Somehow, FFS just doesn't quite say it.

Cosmetic DLCs are made months or years in advance.  Sure, they have patching to do but crying "don't do the thing because of the other thing" is dumb.  It's already done, it will take like 1 minute to turn the event DLC on.  

I,ll put it this way they had those skins for quite awhile. Np but a bigger issue is that Ea\Dice\Ripple have ignored their fan base. For instance the server browser. Bf V ✔️,Bf1 ✔️,Bf4 ✔️ Bf3 ✔️ Bf Vietnam ✔️ Bfbc2 ✔️ and on and on I've been playing this game so long I forget the first maps. Wine I have no cheese, but this looks like cod you know those great fillets from the far north. The Captain of the ship must have been seduced by the aroura borialis Gattlin

Why not?  It's a game where you can eject from a helicopter, one shot a pilot and land in the seat of a fighter jet. 
There's no single player "lore" at work here.  It's just multiplayer combat.
 
Does ownership of the franchise belong to the developers or the fans?

Imagine if they just re-released Battlefield Bad Company 2 next year, changed nothing, and a new generation got to experience greatness. Goes to show that technological advancement doesn't make for a great game.

Well people spent their hard-earned money for a game that should work near flawless on release. That is not what they got. So expect them to be even more fumed as the studio has teams split to do holiday skins and microtransaction stuff "we all know it's coming", instead of all hands-on deck to fix the inexcusable release they sold to customers who paid to be entertained.

I'm seven years into PC gaming and have not turned into this so-called ... whiner.

Ha-ha been there done that .... well sorta but from the ground in BF3 on the PS3 a number of times. 

I didn't buy BF 2042. Why? Because I got ripped off with the last two or three BF games. For some reason, I didn't learn earlier, but will now not buy another BF game.
 
For some crazy reason I bought COD this year, but that won't happen again either. These two companies do not deserve the fruits of my labor. They continue to release garbage for premium prices. Most of the time playing their games is spent being frustrated. Why would I pay to be frustrated?

I think the Battlefield fans have been mocking CoD and Fortnite for so long about their joke-of-a-game skins and how they cater to young teens with them that when 2042 does so much to make it seem like that's exactly where they're headed it made some of the long-time Battlefield fans angry.
 
I also think that if the game was good from the get go and not the broken unfinished mish-mash of Apex Legends and "Battlefield" that it is, people wouldn't have cared at all about a low-key Santa cape and reindeer painted on the tanks (yes they also had skins for Christmas lights on the helicopters and holiday painted tank skins). I'm pretty sure the grumbles from that would have been super low. But, we have a broken game, patches that take one step forward, two steps back, a huge lack of content, a game that can't decide if it wants to be serious or a joke for kids, and then they drop santa suits on us before taking most of December off. That's why people got mad. It's not really about the skin.
 
This game should have stayed focused the whole time, or released a year later after it was actually done.
