Hi there,

so where do you get the actual latest official Intel X299 Chipset driver?

EVGA does just offer an older version in the driver section of the evga.com site. Although it is labeled as 10.1.8.6 in the download section it is actually (if you check the intel installer .exe) Version 10.1.18121.8164
For reference I checked another X299 Mainboard with the ASUS Rampage VI Extreme Encore - they do offer a newer Version of the X299 driver - Version 10.1.18295.8201

If you try to find the latest X299 drivers on Intels own homepage you just get to this site: Chipsatz-INF-Utility (intel.de)
The File right there has a timestamp of 6/30/2021 but unfortunately it is NOT an x299 chipset driver. Intels Website is just horrendous! Should be Version 10.1.18793.8276 but if you have a fresh windows install and try to use this installer, there are many unknown devices afterwards in the device manager.

So, which version are you using, where are you getting it from, and what is actually the latest working X299 Chipset Driver?

Cheers

Latest Intel drivers are now installed by Windows update. Once you have installed Windows go to Update settings and look for Optional updates, they will be there.

You can always search the Intel Download Center directly (these are all for Win 10 64bit):

Intel Chipset INF - Version: 10.1.18793.8276 (Latest) Date: 6/30/2021

I had no issue installing this version on my x299 Dark.  I did have the version provided by EVGA installed first though - might be why I didn't have any missing devices, etc. (your missing devices may need other drivers as listed below)

There are even newer versions of the Network drivers and RST:

Intel Network Drivers - Version: 26.6 (Latest) Date: 10/18/2021 (for I219 and I210)
Intel RST - Version: 18.6.1.1016 (Latest) Date: 9/28/2021

Through the Intel Download Center, you can customize and search to your hearts content.

Unfortunately not for the X299 Chipset. This just does not work.

Yes, if you install the EVGA drivers first and then the Intel Chipset INF - it works, but i have the strange feelings that most of the drivers installed by this method will be old then.

Could you please clarify what exactly you mean with it doesn't work for X299 chipset? Which chipset drivers exactly do not get installed after optional Windows update, what are the names and which versions they should be, please?

    Public Service Advisory:

In the absence of any proof one still needs to download and install X299 chipset drivers instead of using Windows Optional Updates I have downloaded V 10.1.18793.8276 from Intel’s site, ran its installation on system that already had chipset drivers installed through Win10’s Optional Updates, compared before/after and couldn’t find anything new installed.

In other words: If I was doing this correctly result indicates Win10 Optional Updates will give you (at this moment) latest X299 chipset drivers and you don’t need separate download and install from Intel, that one won't do anything.
