So I have an EVGA 1000 G1 psu with the part number: 120-G1-1000 on the actual unit. When I went to register the product on the EVGA website, it wouldn't let me register the serial number unless I put VR at the end of the part number ie: 120-G1-1000-VR. My question is, are these the same psu???
The reason I am asking is because I have a dilemma. I am using the 120-G1-1000 in a new PC build and the motherboard I purchased requires an 8pin cpu connection AND an additional 4pin cpu connection for overclocking the cpu. (which I would like to do) The problem is that I threw away all of my extra cables a few years ago and now only have one 8pin 4+4 cpu cable and would need one more cable just like it to fill that additional connection on the motherboard. I had borrowed a separate evga psu nylon wrapped 8pin cpu cable from a friend (he and I don't know from which psu, only that its an evga cable) hoping it would be compatible and boot up, but when I tried it in the primary 8pin slot, the pc refused to turn on. Then when I plugged in the original non nylon wrapped cable that came with my psu, it booted just fine. I am trying to purchase this exact cpu cable that would work with my psu.
I have already submitted a support ticket to EVGA regarding this issue and they linked a url to this cable stating that it should work with my psu but upon looking at the cables compatibility, the 120-G1-1000 is not listed which makes me question if it will work at all. I also found this cable on Amazon which seems like the cable I need but again, I am not sure if it is compatible with my psu. Any suggestions?
