How bad is the g5 really? Are the cables compatible with the older generation g3/p2 super flower ect? I have a 750w p2 but I think I should up it. At the time it was the best I could buy. No 1000w or 850s were available. Canada pricing sucks top. A 1200w+ is hitting 600+ CAD

My Setup
-ASUS PG259QN, XG248Q
-Lian Li 011 Dynamic
-MSI Z490 Meg Ace
-10900K 5.2GHZ

-Artic Freezer II 360MM
-16GB Viper 4400MHZ
-3080 TI Founders

-EVGA 750 P2

My 850W G5 is doing great.  Two months since I installed it with a 3070, they came in a bundle.  I also have a 1200W P2 (it used to power two 1080 ti SLI), but currently powering a 3070ti.  To make it short, my P2 is under used but serving me well.  No problem from both of them.  Satisfied with their performance.

Cables seems to be the same (18 AWG) except a G5 print on PSU side for the G5 cables.
Interchangeable?  Yes.  I can only confirm on the VGA cables as well as SATA.  I didn't try it for the MB and CPU.

Some noticeable differences that does not affect performance:
    1.  Texture / Finishing (G5 is glossy vs P2 matte) ---->  I have a CPU cover on my PC casing so it does not matter to me
    2.  ECO Switch (G5 got a tiny seesaw switch vs slider switch for P2)
    3.  EVGA Logo LED power indicator on G5

If you are happy with your P2, the 1200W P2 is currently on sale, 80USD off.

I did a bunch of research on 5 series and I guess many people/review companies were upset they went away from superflower. I hear its still an okay power supply but definitely not the same quality as the 3 series which for some reason I couldn't get but I settled for a 1300 G2. Would have loved a platinum series.

That is a nice PSU. I mean its kind of funny reading into PSU's. Like toms hardware says "poor transient response" (on the 5 series) and I always see buildzoid going off about transient response on motherboards ect. On the grand scale what exactly does it mean? I mean they still all perform on par with spec.
