Hi need a little help on a EVGA x299 FTW board. I'm trying to turn on secure boot in the bios my system is set up with a Samsung 250g 970 Evo key as boot drive, when I originally set the system up I had to use the legacy rather than UEFI in boot mode select. So now in order to turn on secure boot option I have to disable the CSM configuration which in turn changes the Legacy to UEFI in the boot mode select option and I can longer see the my boot drive which is the Samsung SSD 970 making the system not boot it doesn't see the drive. In order to be able to boot again I have to reverse the the CSM config option for the system to see the 970 boot drive. Is there a way to configure the bios to see the key drive to boot in UEFI?

Thanks

You will have to back up your files in Legacy mode; than re-install Windows in UEFI mode which means totally wiping out the disk drive as it will be reformatted as a GPT drive. Data is accessed different which is why it cannot see your drives in Legacy mode.

Ok thanks will I be able to reinstall software from backup later or am I starting the boot drive from scratch. Also does this apply for other drives on in the system or just the boot drive?

    Thanks

It's only the boot drive as it needs to make an EFI hidden partition. Everything else will be the same.

When I used the USB stick to first install I could not get the old C drive to show up. It was still in Legacy mode. I believe I formatted all partitions and then the setup program saw the drive as available.

You don't necessarily have to reinstall Windows. There is a tool built into Windows to covert a drive to GPT. It's worth a shot, because even if it goes wrong, what's the worst that could happen? You will need to reinstall Windows? You were going to do that anyway.
