Hi All,

Is it normal for GPU thermal pads to eventually melt under temperature?

I received my video card 3 and a half weeks ago. I do not overclock, use standard settings.

I noticed a gray gooey thermal pad.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Cheers,

That is thermal putty, it is between a thermal pad and thermal paste in consistency, and it is 100% normal.

I thought it was weird also at first, jay. EVGA even sells it now.   https://www.evga.com/products/product.aspx?pn=M047-10-000003

    Thanks for the reply!

Bad news though, today when I started up my computer I noticed small black squares on my desktop for a few seconds, and while viewing a few web pages.

Is this a type of artifact?

It's possible. I would power down and make sure card is seated/reseat in slot well, and also the power cords from PSU. You should be using separate cables to GPU, not daisy chained also. This series of cards seem to be particular about power. Hope it's not an issue for you.

I made your recommended adjustments. I was using the chained power cords. I also switched to another display port.

No issues for 24 hours, and a 4 hour stress test.

    Thanks for the help!
