I used cherry blues at home for a long time so I when I finally bought a mechanical keyboard for work I decided on cherry browns. They didn't click as much, but I found out I was a still a bit of a heavy typer so they are "kinda" loud. In the office setting it wasn't noticeable because of all the other din from people chatting and making they're own clickity-clack. But when we transitioned to working from home it was a lot more noticeable to others over virtual meetings for a couple of reasons.
    1) I wasn't taking my keyboard to meetings so they just heard my laptop keys or I was taking notes.
    2) The keyboard is pretty close to the microphone and it seems to be picked up better than other background noise and I touch type so it's not a chicken pecking type noise but a constant drone of keys being smashed.

So I constantly have to mute because I don't want to hurt anyone's ears.

What I'm getting at, is even with quiet switches, you maybe also want to look into o-rings to help dampen the physical sound of the keycap being pressed.

I hate browns and blues. they just feel weird, especially the "Gateron" ones. Cherry red or silent reds (pinks) are where its at for me. I also like silent alpacas. Any switch that is quiet, is linear, or sound like a nice "thock," are my favorite. If you are asking for a cheap way to make your keyboard more silent, then get o rings. They helped a lot for me.

Personally I like the cherry brown because I like clicky but the reds are probably the best for gaming. Of course if this is a switch you are installing yourself optical options are not helpful since those won’t be installed at home.

What might be a good idea is to order a keyboard switch test kit. It’s just one of each switch and a key cap. Then you can press down on different switches and see what one feels and sounds best to you.

I like Cherry brown but these new Kailh Speed Silver switches aren't too shabby.  Brown a bit clickier...both responsive
