just downloaded, so no go? I'll install my 3080 Ti with 68 then...

The game-ready desktop version was released a short while ago. I just installed it, so I’ll see how it goes. As a side note, 720 GB? Really? Why the heck does each drivers release keep getting closer and closer to the 1 TB file size?

Because Nvidia stubbornly refuses to break off their ray tracing card drivers from the older ones.  They really should have at least two branches for drivers these days - ones for the pre-ray tracing cards, and ones for the newer ones.  Currently they fix something for one card, and it breaks something for another.

My file size blunder aside - still can’t believe I did that - I’d really like to know why the drivers installer file keeps getting larger and larger. Part of it’s likely raytracing stuff, but I also think it’s because the drivers support every GeForce card all the way back to the 600 series. The TestingGames YouTube channel posted a video comparing the same hardware with different versions of drivers from 2017-present, and there’s a small gain from newer drivers. So, I get why every model card is included. Still, there’s got to be a better way than downloading actual GB worth of files throughout a year. Otherwise, if given enough time, there will be a 1 TB file download. It might take a century or so, but the point is it will happen with the current trend.

Yeah I've never understood why Nvidia insists on having a single driver run ALL of their cards.  I'm sure they have some reason that makes sense to them, but it seems like it creates more trouble than it's worth.  I really wish they'd split them off into two or three different drivers for various generations of cards.

Sure could use some advice.

I just received my new 3080 Ti FTW3 for my all new build.
I prefer my first driver install to be a stable one before trying anything just for the sake of having the latest.

I heard that v466.77 is stable. Do you advise me to start with that or this new one v471.96?
Also, I'd rather not go too far back in time unless really necessary.
I appreciate your opinions.

your in luck with the ti cards 466.77 is the oldest game ready and studio drivers 462.65 is the oldest. 471.96 has been ok so far and fixes the dpc latency with 8 bit monitors. 471.11 also worked fine for me with mpo disabled. 466.77 or the hot fix 466.79 seem like safe options if your super worried

471.68 was stable with my 3080 Ti. The only difference between that and 471.96 appears to be G-Sync support for monitors added to Nvidia’s list. That’s all that’s really highlighted in the notes anyway.

Thank, guys. That really helps.

I'll start with 471.96 since it's the latest and seems good.
I'll keep 466.79 on hand for emergency fall back.
I've always kept a fall back position ready for video drivers.

I have no problems uninstalling Nvidia drivers and cleaning up remnants for a clean install. I just didn't want to do too much troubleshooting at first until I get all settled.

Thanks again.

Just a quick followup.
That hotfix 466.79 is not available on Nvidia. Just doesn't show up. So I'll keep 466.77.
But I don't expect to really need it anyway.

Ah, thanks again. Fortunately that situation wouldn't apply to me. (multi monitor setup)
Damn, after all these years I didn't know they issued hot fixes that way.

ah none of your monitors use free sync over dp ? As vrr is just variable refresh rate aka freesync working on nvidia.

Sorry. What I should have said was NO multi monitor setup.
My one and only monitor is FreeSync and supposedly is compatible with Nvidia G-sync but just not officially.
It's a BenQ EX2780Q 27" 2560x1440 144Hz FreeSync

If I ever need to use that older driver, 466.77, should I use the 466.79 hotfix instead?
Thank you very much for straightening me out! again

ya if you are enabling the g sync feature id use it. The flicker didn't affect everyone but if you end up needing to fall back may as well use the .79 driver

I'm guessing you don't have an HDR monitor, right?  Just a reminder, it's probably a bad idea to install 471.96 if you use HDR.  All kinds of problems including BSOD deathloops with HDR on this one.  If you don't use HDR, you're probably fine with that one, though.

This is an entirely new system. Even the monitor. Have not used this monitor before.
But yes it has HDR capability. They call it HDRi and it's supposed to be their exclusive proprietary improvement over ordinary HDR.

So I have no idea if I can turn it off on the monitor or in the driver.

I'll do some research and if I can't disable it then I will go with the older driver.
I'll have to make the Nvidia forums a regular place to visit.

I really appreciate the warning. Thank you.

EDIT: I just read it's part of the known issues. I have to pay better attention to what was said here.
EDIT 2: Yep, just read the release notes.
1 FINAL edit: Just found it in the montor manual. I can disable it in the monitor control panel.
And apparently you can turn it off in windows.
Didn't realize windows had that setting since my laptop can't do HDR.
Good, I'm all set.

According to the release notes it's a Windows 10 issue.
And I will be using Windows 10. So I'll have to watch out for it.

Windows 10 Issues
[Deathloop][HDR]:TDR/corruption occurs in the game with Windows HDR enabled.
If this issue occurs, toggle the Windows HDR setting.
