Tech PowerUp - Microsoft to Ban Unsupported Machines from Windows 11 Updates “The PC enthusiast community has developed various workarounds to the system requirement of a hardware trusted-platform module 2.0 (TPM 2.0) for the operating system. Microsoft itself also suggested that those on older machines (without TPMs), who cannot upgrade from Windows 10 to Windows 11, have the option of performing a clean-installation of the new operating system using its ISO installer disk image. These machines, however, will be treated as "unsupported," will not have access to Windows Update, and may potentially be barred from receiving important security updates. Microsoft recommends, however, that those who don't meet the system requirements of Windows 11 remain on Windows 10. The company plans to maintain support for Windows 10 up to October 14, 2025.” MS is going to stand fast on their hardware requirements which is understandable. With support for Win 10 going out to 2025, most consumers will have upgraded by then.

at least we have time to see what W11 really has to offer, before leaving W10 Of course I'm not all that sure MS has been very clear about the "required hardware" & things may change again TMP 2.0 requirement, might not go away .. but what about older CPU's that can work with MBs that support TMP 2.0?

This is absurd. Complete and total demand for control over your hardware. Insanity!

HA! Thats great. For all the guys that wanted to stop windows update from phoning home and reapplying itself, wrecking drivers etc... MS comes along and gives us a permanent fix. Really, you could just install the newest win 11 iteration and have all those updates anyway, so whatever MS....keep playing dictator.

That is a good point. the one thing I hate about windows is that updates often brick things in 10. 11 may fix this, however not in the way your expect it too.
Lol, well MS O/S' never do anything the way you expect them to.

This wouldn't be as bad if it wasn't for the whole parts shortage. Nothing like people hearing about a new version of Windows being released in the media and them having non supported hardware to make some of them feel the need to upgrade. I am not saying it will be a massive amount but it could be enough to make supplies even tighter then they are now.

Maybe not, there was the rush to upgrade systems when work from home, remote education, and home entertainment hit. That backlog of demand is still with us, but those systems should be W11 compliant. If a consumer has an older system that suits their need for now, they may not upgrade, particularly since W10 will be supported until 2025.

Upgrading takes money. There are many out there that don't have the capital to cover an upgrade. Two of my three systems will run Windows 11. Will I upgrade...time will tell.

Strange way to tackle a new OS. Hoping most consumer PC and laptops will have the TPM at least enabled so people don't start buying new PCs and adding to e waste

Most PCs/laptops/motherboards bought within the last 5 years have TPM.

Just when you thought Microsoft was losing their minds with perpetual forced 6 month patch updates, they've made it even more tedious. Now you have to manually reinstall it every 6 months to keep it up to date on older hardware. There is someone in Microsoft that decided this was an intelligent move. there is zero reason why Windows 11 can't run on older hardware.

It's all about control. "Software as a service" garbage. If people would refuse to use this crap they'd stop doing it. Note: That includes me.

Those same people complain about lack of security so when Microsoft requires TPM as part of that security requirements improvement people grumble.
