That depends if you are talking 60hz or you want 200hz.
A 980 Ti or 1070 still destroys 1080p for most games but you might not be able to put every setting on full.

    i7 5820k 6 Core
    Gigabyte GA-X99-Gaming G1 WIFI
    EVGA 980 Ti Hybrid
    32GB G.Skill Ripjaws 4 Series 2800 MHZ
    Samsung 850 Evo 512GB
    WD Black 6TB
    Acer  XB280HK 28" 3840 x 2160 UHD
    EVGA - 850 Watt - Gold - PSU

Thank you, I  have been coming across 980's, and 780's and I don't want ot hunt for anything too low to give a budget gaming experience. 60HZ I would say, I am trying to get the biggest bang for the buck. The 7xx series is losing support so I wanted to see the next level which 9xx series makes sense. TY

Hopefully this info will assist you.

I have many serious gamer friends that bought into the 30 series cards when they first came out but they OC too much & every one of them blew their cards & while waiting for their cards to get fixed/repaired/replaced, they came to me & asked for some spare GPUs. I gave them my spare 780 TI, 1080 TI, 1660 & 2070 FTW3 cards which all play 100% of every game out there except the Doom Eternal game will not play on the 780 TI. None of the cards except the 2070 FTW3 has ray tracing but they informed me that no appreciable difference in gaming  because ray tracing is no big deal for them. They all told me they wasted their money on 30 series cards when all the older cards from 1660 & up play modern games just fine.

The 780 TI is 4K certified, the 1660 is 8K & 240 HZ certified & plays everything out there as of 2021 so if you can find one at MSRP or close to it, it will do fine for you.

900 series. NVIDIA is dropping driver support for 600/700 in October.

I would argue that the 10 series is lowest you could go for stability with any newer games at 60 FPS with the lowest settings possible. Granted, if you had an old monitor, it wouldn't matter anyway.

It kind of agree that it might be worth looking for a 10 series. Older models might be able to handle it but the 10 will have longer driver support and really was a large performance boost from the 9 series.
