Does anyone know of a source for replacement SC17 4K displays? Mine started wigging out today and I'd rather not replace this laptop because it still works just fine other than the screen at times. It works fine on an external display, but I do need the portability of a laptop. If anyone knows of a trustworthy source please let me know. Thank you.

Hey man, weird as it is, I’m in the same damn boat as you.

My screen on the SC17 went bad as well. Displaying vertical lines and flickering like crazy.

Would like to replace screen as well, works fine on external monitor.

    Any ideas?

You aren't the first 2.  At least a few before you have asked similar questions, but I don't remember anyone posting their solution.

Seriously guys? It happened to me too today.
I'm panicking, I dont know what to do.

Wth is with EVGA laptops. There was a permanent line artifact happened sometime 2 years ago, but too small and I can ignore it.

    My laptop: SC17 GTX 1070 4K

    Explanation:
    - Was just watching an anime while browsing the net
    - The charger was unplug (I forgot) and it went to sleep mode
    - So I plug the charger and turn it on again. From then the screen just went crazy (vertical artifacts throughout the entire screen)
    - Attached one of the Artifact picture. Its all slim line artifacts, but there are other forms too on other occassions.

    What I've done:
    - I press cmos button and when its on, artifact return
    - Restart / Turn off laptop, same issue when its on
    - Tried System Restore, the soon after it happened again
    - Want to try check GFX driver, but before I get the chance, artifact again
** basically I can get the screen to turn on briefly (all normal) but after several minutes, the artifact would return

    What I want to try:
Go to safe mode and try things there.

I dont know what to suspect, but there was a windows update earlier, thats why I wanted to try system restore, but couldnt complete.
I also havent try on external monitor.

What can I do? This is too scary.
    Please help.

Confirmed. Artifacts on Laptop Screen only. Works fine with external monitor.
Is there anything I can try to fix this?

When turned on, laptop monitor can work normally for sometime before artifact appears.
But once it appears, it will stay there until I restart laptop.
Which it will work for sometime and eventually appear again soon after.

CMON EVGA!!! My Toshiba Qosmio Laptop is still working fine.
Except that its too weak for the tasks nowadays but still usable for lots of things...

Out of curiosity, has anyone tried the Bios reset above the power button. It's a tiny little hole right above the power button and
whenever I experience weird behavior out of my SC17 that seems to provide a fix.

Hi BizSar, I managed to find those posts. But I have several questions:
    - Can I replace the 4K screen with 1080p Screen? I know SC17 have both version (What I read is that the GTX 1070 screen is different than the GTX 970/980 screen)
    - I found the 4K one in ebay from one of the post. Its almost 500 USD with shipping =(
Even so, its not guaranteed since the post told us to check the sellers
    - That is also excluding repair cost and the screen protector (if its available at all); which Idk how much it will be
    - I read that the screen protector is glued hard and would crack easily, but replacing the whole screen top from EVGA isnt an option, right?

Do you have a better solution to this?
    Thanks for your help.

Any comment from EVGA at all?

My screen issue is kinda weird.
Every now & then, the screen would look normal like before, then it would change to the artifacts again.
But as mentioned, it could somehow revert back to normal without me doing anything.

I wonder if it could caused by loose cable?
I read somewhere here about loose monitor cable (After closing and opening repeatedly, like a laptop is supposed to do).........

I mentioned it in another thread, but I did have to replace the panel on my SC17 GTX 1080.....I did not manage to remove the screen protector without breaking it to pieces... it is kind of like tempered glass used on phones....cracks easily.  But at at least the screen is working....I just used black tape around the corners for the bezel.  Nowadays the machine is used as a desktop replacement only with a  g sync 144Hz monitor, keyboard, etc....so I don't get frustrated anymore looking at the replacement screen without the proper finishing.  My keyboard on the notebook went bad as well, some keys stopped working, but I also successfully replaced that.   One mini displaypor outputt also stopped working, but there is two, so still works with one g sync monitor.
I do want to upgrade to a desktop eventually, but since graphics cards are impossible too find and the performance of the GTX 1080 is really good for my needs at the moment, the machine is still hanging in there and doing it's job. When travelling the razer blade with gtx 1060 also plays all the games I want fine.
Perhaps next generation RTX might be the the time to retire the SC17 and donate it to some kid.

So, I know this is like 5 months ths later but I just tore my SC17 apart tonight. Mine is a 1070 with the 4K display. I got the part number b173zan01.0 off of it. That part number is readily available from multiple places and was used for more than just the EVGA laptop. Unfortunately like others the glass screen protector cracked on mine. I got it about 90% of the way off and then when I got to the bottom corner the cover cracked. I just figure I'll get another screen and some good vinyl to use as a screen protector. I REALLY want my laptop back for full time use. Because it's my personal laptop the IT person at work doesn't touch it. And because of that I don't have issues with it like all the company owned machines.

Mine is the screen. Once I had the screen out I could twist the screen itself and make it work. But once it heats up to a certain point it just shows lines no matter what. I tried moving the cable and it made no difference at all. As far as removal you just have to get a small screw driver or pry tool under the glass screen protector. It was the easiest to start on the sides or at the top. But there is a lot of adhesive around the bottom and it'll break during removal and be aware it is glass and splinters all over. Then you can easily remove the screen with 4 screws. Unfortunately there is no replacement for the screen protector that I'm aware of.

Figured I would add my name to the list of users having the vertical lines and flashing screen issue. While I would love to have the screen working, the only issue I have without is no bios access(BIOS does not display on external ports).

This behavior is interesting. I plan to pull the screen to see if I can replicate the behavior with mine. I have a feeling that there can be some internal circuitry that is having connection issues due to heat cycles. My screen died over the course of ~2 months. Initially it would occasionally wig out unpredictably(flicker, start with the lines). Later it seemed to be related to on time duration; the screen would work on first use of the day then start again with the lines and flickering after maybe a half hour.

I have no clue though about what is under the screen protector. Anyone have links to photos or videos of the screen replacement process?

There are places out there selling 'replacement' screens, but I am loathe to post them here....You can google search them....found one place for 260ish bucks for a screen.

No idea how solid the vendor is...and I won't post it because of that...do it at your own risk.

I know about the replacement screens for sale. Maybe I go that route. For now I'm more interested in inspecting the screen and related bits to see if there is any hope in solving the issue through diagnosis and fixing(backlight works, screen pixels appear fine, the issue seems to be confined to the bits that handle mainboard signal to screen pixels). Having the laptop screen work is mostly a luxury as I'm already using 2 external monitors normally. Would be nice to have the screen back though, as I would like to use it as my second once I upgrade again(never mind how spooked I am about not having a way to interact with the BIOS without the primary screen).

The bits that handle decoding the information and sending it to the correct row and column are 'chip on flex' usually.
They are essentially unfeasible to repair or diagnose. They are silicon chips bonded directly to the ribbon cable which is then bonded directly to the screen. Maybe someone with lab equipment somewhere can replace a ribbon cable, but you're talking about a specialty thing for a specialty part. Finding the part and the equipment and the specialist would probably cost you much more in the long run.

Even still I plan to tinker. I figure it's worth a shot. Tthe screen is borked as is and nothing is lost if any attempts fail on the part that already needs replacing.

My motherboard in my 1070 SC17 failed, it had the 4k screen. The screen worked perfectly before the laptop died. If anyone wants to buy the chassis and Powerbrick which also worked fine, I'll sell it for a couple hundred bucks..
