I am currently running Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit with SP1 on a decade old EVGA system I built back in 2009. I would like to upgrade this system to Windows 10; is this something that my current system specs (below) can support?

Note: Yes, I know my PC is (very) old and outdated, and no, I am not interested in upgrading, replacing or parting it out. It works just fine for what I need it to do. =)

my x58 has no issues with W10 ...

highly recommend a clean install & only have the boot drive connected when installing the OS

Similiar specs to my old PC, except that I was running at 1040 GPU.  The update itself ran fine, but it fraged my RAID array, which then had to be rebuilt, and for some reason, ever since I updated, I can't play Forged Alliance for more than 20 minutes without it CTD.  Other than that it ran fine though.

Yeah, totally. If you get a new rig you can use that old boi to do a lot of things if you want to.

Thanks all for the replies!

My main concern with upgrading the OS on this system to Windows 10 comes down to how finicky and temperamental the X58/ICH10R chipset drivers can be (at least in my experience).

Where does one acquire the chipset drivers needed for the X58 chipset to run on Windows 10?

Windows 10 should automatically install a set of chipset drivers for you. If not you could look on https://www.station-drive...e-Software/lang,en-gb/ for them.

Your system will run Windows 10, but just know that Nvidia just dropped support for all Kepler based video cards with the 471.11 drivers so the newest drivers you can use are the 466.77 drivers. As was stated above Windows 10 will automatically install chipset drivers for your X58 platform.

I've used this Intel tool on my EVGA X99 MBs to get updates - have yet to test it on my MSI X58

I've seen mixed reports regarding this tool on X58 chipsets; success rate is mostly a crap shoot, leaving me a bit leery about using the tool on 12-year old chipset technology.

Totally understand! I mean, you can drive a Pontiac Fiero GT, but that won't stop the car from spontaneously bursting into flames (which it did, often).

My concern is making sure Windows 10 runs smoothly on this aged machine, when support and compatibility for X58/ICH10R chipset drivers is questionable at best.

My newer Sager laptop from 2016 took a dump on me and I was forced to press my 2012 Sager back into service and it runs Windows 10 just fine. Although, it is a 10# 17.3" Desktop replacement Behemoth with a socketed Intel i7-3940XM and a GTX 980m MXM slot video card with a power brick the size of a small car battery... Not fun to lug back and forth to work

All the drivers I have for my EVGA E760 X58 motherboard are Windows 7 64-bit based; can I use these same drivers and install them on a Windows 10 64-bit OS installation? Is this recommended, and will there be any issues (BSOD, crashes, freezing, performance hits etc.) by doing so?
