I've always been nervous with Windows updates.  The first time I had to reformat a computer was when a Windows ME update went into an infinite loop.  Things like that were so much more complicated before all the guides and Youtube videos.


Windows ME was soo soo bad though.. like Billy G how do you screw up this much?

With the kicking the can down the road Microsoft is doing with little in the way of changes what reason is there not move to 21H1.

Question on the 21H1 update.  Is it like some of the previous "minor" updates where it installed more like a monthly patch?  Or is it one of the kinds that essentially installs a new Windows folder, migrates your stuff, and leaves a Windows.old folder for a few weeks?  Just debating to install tonight before a group gaming thing or not since the more in depth "migration" style requires me to fix a few things after vs. just logging in and resuming normal use.

Nevermind got my my answer.  It installs just like a monthly update, installed it in like 2 minutes no issues so far.

I am glad that this is exactly the case. And sometimes the installation is delayed for several hours. And then you still need to configure some elements of the system.

yes, I had 2 PCs on which the installation of 1903 hung forever. And it didn't work out either way. Only reboot-rollback and disable auto-updates.

3 similar computers in my house , all got updated, only 1 had issues with these....
 
Both the AMD based systems went fine , but the Intel system would not go past BIOS/ boot screen...just kept loading. ( 10 mins no movement )...pressing keys did nothing.
I had to unplug from wall, power cycle a few times, finally got into BIOS , load defaults , reboot , still took a couple minutes for it to finish booting....
 Ended up running BleachBit  , restarting , load windows, restart , put BIOS settings back to where I wanted them .... reboot . load windows....finally good.
