Tom’s Hardware:  Falling Europe GPU Pricing Suggests Shortage is Easing

“This could be the beginning of the end of the graphics card shortage.
According to ComputerBase, graphics card prices have begun to drop as much as 50% in Europe. Availability has also improved significantly, with sales of most GPU models from both AMD and Nvidia doubling month-over-month. This report comes on the heels of ASRock, a GPU maker, noting that GPU pricing is easing as demand from Chinese cryptocurrency miners wanes.

More budget-oriented cards like the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 and AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT are seeing the most positive results, with a near 50% drop in price compared to last month. For flagship cards like the RTX 3080 and RX 6800 XT, however, prices haven't moved as much. They have dipped a respectable 10-15% which is still a very positive change considering the shortage issues plaguing the technology industry.

In the United States, GPU pricing is slowly catching up to Europe, but it's still going down nonetheless. A Redditor named 'u/xclm' has created a chart comparing GPU prices of cards sold on eBay with the amount of mining horsepower it's capable of, over the course of the past month.

He found that prices are dropping reasonably well with a 20% average price drop for all cards this month compared to May, and the higher-performing cards like the RTX 3090 have seen an even higher drop of 32% in price.”

This could be the start of some good news for a change.

I followed some EVGA 3080 Ti cards in eBay auctions yesterday. The lowest went for $1,955.35 and highest $2,161.95 with shipping. That is kind of down % wise as to what the regular 3080 were going for. The card that sold for $1,955.35 was a XC3 Hybrid, so the seller made a little over $60 in profit lol. eBay is making a killing though.

So is Amazon.  They sell the cards, bots buy them, and then they list the cards on Amazon as third party sellers.  Amazon collects on their own sale and then the third party sellers fee.  It is the Amazon version of the "self licking ice cream cone."

In Europe my personal review of pricing still shows prices haven't fallen that much.

Tom's Hardware might be a little optimistic.  Unfortunately, Computer Base's price chart is a small sampling and they are slightly vague about it and some of the people commenting there are not buying the story.

I believe your information is much more accurate.

Maybe Tom's Hardware and ComputerBase were throwing a seed of hopefulness out into the wild.  I personally don't think that this is going to improve for a very long time.

For anyone in Germany I found the RTX 3080ti FTW 3 at computeruniverse.net for 2,099 Euros. That price includes VAT and shipping. The price is still high but at least that one is available.

2% drop all around isn't exactly earth shattering drops....  'THEY' ( you know who they are....) will milk this out until the holiday shopping season is over.
Then shortages will magically ease up  more ....

All mention of improvements are science fiction. You are correct - it will take a very long time.

    that's an insane price!
and usually GERMANY has good prices... if not the best prices in EUROPE

maybe i should sell my 1080 Ti.. and return to my GTX 760 SC ..
heck i could probably ask 800euros for my 1080 Ti and have some little profit!

just checked  KASEKING.DE and they ask 2000€ for a Ti version?  no freaking way...

In most places prices are still high, the retailers probably want to keep it that way for as much as possible. If people really wanna spend 3x on a GPU then why wouldn't they, I know I would if given the chance.
