Thank you, seems like I will have to learn about RAM now .
It runs ok @3800Mhz with the timings given in AUTO btw.

Thanks. Do you have a tip with wich Voltage settings should I start and what values?
There are a lot of options...

That will depend on your kit. I don't know which one you have specifically or what the starting voltage is. The memory kit I had used 1.4V for the XMP profile. I ran it at 1.45V and never had an issue. I've seen some DDR G.Skill kits (with the same memory chips inside) that came with voltages over 1.65V (usually the 5600MHz stuff though), so I wasn't worried about 1.45V.

Also, if you look at the recommendations page on that Igors Lab article I posted earlier, they gave some tips on getting memory stable, one of which: SA Voltage between 1.25 and 1.3V (some motherboards auto voltage puts it outside that range, but I think my EVGA z590 was in there somewhere as I never had to touch it). So take a peak at what your voltage is going to on "auto" there. They talk about the VCCIO memory voltage as well, but for what you're doing, I'd be surprised if you had to touch that.

Finally, it was not uncommon to just have a bad memory kit...in DDR4 or DDR5 really. I don't remember it being that way for previous memory kits, but I have heard a lot more people just have to RMA kits the last couple years.

Hello,

I tried 1.350V on both VSA and VCCIO-Aux, no changes unfortunately. Wait for EVGA official response, then will decide about RMA.

The XMP Profile sets 1.450V for the kit.

You could try lowering the VSA to 1.3V. That was one of the suggestions from Igor, that the motherboard he was testing set it too high and lowering it improved stability. The voltage I was talking about bumping up would have been the memory voltage (1.45 from XMP) to maybe 1.5 or even 1.55 just to test (if that worked, I'd want to back it down toward the XMP voltage as low as it would run stable).

No luck so far. Tried it with 1,5V on memory voltage, VSA 1,3V an VCCIO-AUX 1,35V.
It always stuck on ramcheck looping in the boot sequence.

3800Mhz/gear2 work fine with about 55GB read/write and 51ns latency. This is "ok" but I just want to know what I can get in gear1.

That's actually pretty great latency for gear 2, but yeah I have no idea what EVGA is going to be able to do for you in this case. gear 1 on z590/11900k has always been a lottery you have to win 3 times. CPU-IMC, DDR4-kit, and motherboard-quality. It seemed like most EVGA z590's were not an issue, but I do remember kalsim (OP on this thread) never getting his board to do better with parts that would do it on other motherboards. It seemed everyone else either had a bad DDR4-kit, a bad CPU (in terms of IMC), or for some reason a pairing of these that just wasn't entirely compatible. You'd be best off most likely trying to RMA your memory kit in my opinion, but I'm certainly not advising against trying to get EVGA's tech support to assist you. Technically, everybody's product is meeting specifications...so you're kind of in a tough spot.

Also, side laugh, I totally missed in your initial post you were on a Dark, which only has two slots lol. Sorry

I do! I also remember them taking an RMA on another kit for you with almost no questions asked (right?) when it wouldn't hit the advertised speeds.

In this case, Brocke21 can't even get 3600 or 3466 to run at gear 1...which certainly seems like it was easy for almost everyone (except kalsim) to run. If I was hung up on it I'd RMA the memory kit...but 50ns isn't bad at all, so I'd probably just run the 3800 gear 2. well...they're in "auto".

Hey Brocke21, can you take a look at the memory tab in CPU-z with your 3800 "auto" setting? I'm curious if you've verified that it is indeed running gear 2 and still getting 50ns? I'd expect closer to 60ns with 3800 and gear 2.

Also had an ASUS TUF Z690 around the same time which I purchased purely for interim use until EVGA launched their boards. The ASUS board also had issues, and Newegg not only accepted RMA request without question, they immediately gave a full refund + paid shipping without me even asking for it, which is very rare for Newegg to do, they almost never give refunds for faulty items - must have been some issues with that board for many people.

Hello,

thanks for all your effort! Its early morning here but I cant get no sleep and tested some more.

With just one stick at a time in slot DIMM1 both sticks run in gear1 in single channel mode. read/write around 27GB/s, latency around 44ns (some minor differences between some runs).
I tried both sticks and both worked in gear1.
Add the second stick in DIMM2 and I run in the boot loop immediately.

I checked always also in CPU-Z and it shows correctly 1800Mhz for gear1 (@3600Mhz) with one stick as well as 950Mhz right now @3800Mhz for gear2.

Surprisingly now, aftzer the stick swap, the latency in gear2 is around 56ns (55.3 to 55.7)! Before it was around 51ns (have screenshot)!? Only change is the order of the RAM sticks in the slots. Is this maybe a sign?
I noticed also that, doing the single slot tests, one of the sticks, now in DIMM1, is around 1 ns different (slower) from the other, this performs above 44ns, the other one below. but this are very minor differences so I likely blame it to the benchmark.

The results in aida-64 can vary a bit and if, especially if have any other programs running. Not too many clues there, but 55-56 is closer ti what I expected for gear 2.

I dig out my old Vengeance 3200 CL16 kit and it work fine with XMP1 and gear1. 48GB/s @51ns stock.

So I assume its not the board but the G.Skill ram and will RMA them. Lets see....

Re: Z590 FTW XMP and Gear 1 won't boot 2023/01/09 09:39:06 (permalink)
I thought this forum was dead and everybody but me upgradedto next generation

I'd like to add that there is something weird about 3600 gear1. I tried a few different ram kits and at first they would only occasionally post, often just a post loop.
Then after one of the bios updates all three kits would post but windows 10 would never load, not even once. Always quit with a blue screen or it didn't even get that far.

So I chose my best ram, the GSkill in my sig, and went up to 3733 gear 1 (command rate 2) and have been stable ever since.
I had to change the timings to 16-16-16-36
from xmp 14-14-14-34
Since then the AIDA64 test latency is always in the 40's, usually 45-46.
