This is pretty major when games like NBA, FIFA, Madden and Battlefield all having source code and development tools stolen. In total 786 Gigabytes of data was stolen. I just fear the long term effect this will have for players if the code can be exploited since multiplayer hacks could be hard to stop.

I also worry about attempted hacks delivered via updates to games.  Something similar to Solar Winds or how notPetya got out into the wild.

Good point if they got into get the source code it makes you wonder if they could have planted a virus, botnet or community mining in the code for an update to these games without anyone knowing. It could be that they are exploited already.

Does anyone know how, with hacks like these, the data is taken? Is it in one big chunk as fast as possible or slowly, over time to try to hide what they're doing? Almost a terabyte of data is a lot, at least to me, but even with large companies I don't know if they're transferring so much information all at once as to make it not so noticeable.

mining hacks make sense. but could be a group that will be selling cheat tools.

 The development tools and source code of the engines could be really valuable. Someone not knowing this was stolen code would pay a lot for the use of these engines that got stolen. It also becomes hard for EA to know for sure that the tools used for a new game came from them.

A lot of breaches are over time, like weeks, months, or years. Currently with people working remotely, it might be possible to do faster uploads, likely exfilling data to cloud servers in different regions and then pulling the data from there to the hackers secret underground lair.

Wow ya hackers are definitely something to worry about now with this EA hack

Social engineering is a real thing, being able to get in with a cookie and just claim you're an employee who's phone was lost at a party the night before so you can't 2FA.. Trick an IT department and get code to Fifa and Frostbite engine. Companies have to be paranoid now a days to keep their code secure.

Let's hope someone fixes Fifa since EA clearly can't lol

EA has been broken and been hated for years
broken promises, bad gaming codes, etc
i guess too much politics in a gaming company can be devastating as well

I hope it gives them a sense of pride and accomplishment.

not good. I hope nothing too important was taken. if important stuff was taken they could end up having so big problems in future.
