For the past couple of years, the generations of AMD relative to their cost have been leading the market. You can check the benchmarks, some itels however are more power efficient and better for the environment :) Just a side note.

On a budget the clear choice is intel, with an 11400f coming in within 10 percent of the 5600x in gaming for $125 less. The 3600 and 3600x are downright bad value at 200 dollars, with both of them getting outperformed by either the 10400f from staples for $141 or the 11400f for $175 with a B560 motherboard.

I like amd, but it really comes down to your budget and goals. If you want a balanced system for $1000 check out newegg's prebuilts. That's the only way you're getting a decent cpu and a gpu that isn't awful(1660S, iirc, which is serviceable until you can upgrade) on a budget. Watch gamersnexus review of ABS and you'll see they're considerably better than most prebuilt shops. If you want to wind up with a higher end system and are willing to suffer a little, then the 10700k might be your huckleberry. It's a strong chip with built in graphics, and you can get it really cheap right now from newegg or amazon. You would be running without a proper gpu until you can save up enough to grab the one that's right for your games(valorant, RDR2, and MSFS have very different requirements), so that could be a little rough in the short term.

If you're carrying a graphics card forward (like I did), go AMD. If you need to have a graphics solution, the Intel offering isn't anything special, but is better than a kick in the balls. Once the Ryzen APUs hit the market, I'd look at one of those in absence of a discrete GPU.
Someone suggested a 10850k over a 5600x?
10850: Over $430 5600X: $300
The pricing differences beyond that will be motherboard and memory.

This is my first AMD rig and I couldn't be more delighted. I went the 5950X route...and the machine has plenty of power to take me forward for some time. Using my 2080 TI for graphics...for the GPU market is a straight up joke. The stock of AMD processors is better than it was...Prices getting more and more competitive as well.

Yeah. Sitting on a 5950X myself. Have an actual business case for that many cores... Then, a week after my rig was finalized, I saw a video about a system using a 32-core Threadripper Pro... Buyer's remorse? A little... But the chip alone for that cost more than my entire Ryzen system.

I recently had to answer this same question for myself. For my needs, it came down to the i5 11400 vs the R5 5600x. In the end, I got the 5600x for a $90 premium & a bit higher performance. The 5600x is my 1st AMD CPU & has performed as advertised. Very happy with my choice so far.

It all depends on the price and your tasks. Ryzen 3000 < Intel 10 < Intel 11 ~ Ryzen 5000 (Different tasks have different results).

I went Intel for my most recent CPU update. My 11600k can't overclock at all which is a bummer but it's much faster than my old 4790k

Intel's next gen processor will probably release in November. However that also means buying a new motherboard as well along with a new compatible cooler or AIO/CPU cooler adapter bracket for your existing cooler.

Right now, Intel dominates the entry level market of DIY PC Building, but AMD is presently the king of Mid to High end DIY systems. At this very moment if I were building a shoe string budget PC, it would use an Intel CPU, as mentioned before the 11400f is a great value. But once you can afford 250+ on a CPU, the clear answer is AMD Ryzen 5000, at this very moment in time. (I'm an AMD Fan boy btw, but I know when someone has a better product at the price point)

Based on today's current CPUs and motherboards AMD has the best price per buck but that might change when Intel releases their next gen CPUs.

I think it’s safer to go with Intel if it’s a work from home computer or general household computer but would go AMD if it’s for gaming only. Mostly it’s the optimizations Intel gets that make it better for non gaming right now.

I think that they are currently too close to rule one out. Especially with the fluctuating prices and availability. Just look at the reviews during the time you are speccing your machine and pick the one with the best price/performance at that moment (that you can actually buy).
