Dragon Quest 12 is being developed with Unreal Engine 5 | OC3D News (overclock3d.net) The Dragon Quest franchise has turned 35, and to celebrate, Square Enix has officially revealed several new launches for the series. Dragon Quest 12 is now in development, and Dragon Quest 3 is now getting remade. Dragon Quest 3 will receive an "HD-2D" remake, giving the game visuals similar in style to Octopath Traveller. The game has no firm release date, and it is unknown what platforms the game will release on. Dragon Quest 12: The Flames of Fate will be an adult entry for the series, turning the series towards dark fantasy and away from the franchise's more child-friendly style. Again, no platforms have been announced for Dragon Quest 12, though it is worth remembering that Dragon Quest 11 launched on PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch. Dragon Quest 12's story has already been written, and with the game, the series' turn-based combat system is expected to receive a major overhaul. Square Enix has confirmed that Dragon Quest 12 will receive a simultaneous global release, which means that Japan will be receiving the game on the same day as the rest of the world. Square Enix has also confirmed that the game will be built using Unreal Engine 5. With Square Enix aiming for a global release for Dragon Quest 12, it is likely that Square Enix also plans to release their game on as many platforms as possible. Why broaden your potential playerbase and then restrict the game to a single hardware platform? With this in mind, we expect Dragon Quest 12 to release on PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation 5 hardware. With the game being based on Unreal Engine 5, we do not expect the game to be released anytime soon. I'm guessing this will be a 2022 release.

Its gonna be interesting to see all of the improvements that come with the Unreal Engine 5. I hope we get to play it on PC in early 2022.

My guess is they mean more like Witcher 3 not like adult as in AO rated since consoles haven’t let those kind of games on consoles. I think after Witcher 3 a lot of games want to copy that.

I think we'll finally see more of a noticeable jump in graphics when Unreal 5 is the standard. I've been waiting for graphics to blow me away again for quite some time. It's more so the small technical things that are better now, but I want to be able to look at something and just say "wow."
The Stalker 2 trailer almost did that.

I only played one Dragon Quest game. It was the one for the PS3. (VII? VIII?) I may check out the new one once it comes out. Hopefully it comes out on PC like the last one.
