Hi first post. Was looking for some advice. I have a evga rtx 2060 xc. It's served me well and have no complaints....except, recently it has been getting really hot. Its regularly getting up to 83-85c under load and additionally the fan has been making a noise (maybe linked) I have reapplied some thermal paste and added extra cooling fans (which has cooled my 5600x idling around 38c) but it has made no difference, the card will get up to that temp when playing games like metro exodus EE, and AC Valhalla quickly. Whats strange is at idle the temps are 29-31c so im not sure whats causing the sudden spike. My question is if the Fan/cooler is faulty, is there any aftermarket coolers that anyone can suggest. I have tried to find where i purchased it from to see if it's still under warranty but as I got it a few years ago I cant trace it . I'm happy to purchase an aftermarket cooler but not sure where, or what would be a good option. Any ideas

Is it the one with a single fan or the dual fans ?

The single fan variations are known to be hard to keep cool... ( obviously due to less fans )...
best idea is the increase airflow in your case, ...  add fans, keep side cover off,  ...etc...

If you're not doing so already, you could use some type of Frame (fps) Limiter.  You could use MSI AB/RTSS or PX1 to set a frame limit.  Or you could use the built-in fps limiter in the NV Control Panel > Manage 3D Settings > Program settings tab > (your game).  Scroll down to Max Frame Rate to set.  If you're using a high refresh rate display (120Hz+), experiment with frames capped at 70 for example.  The point is not to let the card constantly try to push frames to it's max.

Using Vsync is another option, but I'd use one of the above methods first.

Thanks for your input. Its the single fan. It hasnt been getting this hot before which is why i was investigating. I did add fans to the case and tried various fan configurations. Its def the card as the rest of my componants are cooler then before. I would like to avoid leaving the side open as its a computer set up in the living room as a media centre too. If its something i have to put up with thats ok, im just worried if it keeps running this hot, will it damage the card.

You could try watercooling. Just something to think about.
    With my 2070 super I was getting idle 48-50c & load 78-80c
    Now after installing a kraken g12 and kraken x63 it's getting idle 24-27c & load 34-39c

aftermarket coolers are a bit of a grey area. While they do help they can be hard to find and generally only fit one or 2 card models.
I would look at the airflow in your case. When I went sfx i had better gpu temps as I was no longer hot boxed and the gpu pulled air direct from outside.

I had the same issue and ultimately went the watercooling route. Works pretty well, quite happy with it.

if before was ok and now with time the thermal performance degradated it has to be due to bad thermal paste application or some problem with the fan/ clogged cooler. try even to change thermal pads ecc. try to increase mounting pressure. if it's not the cooler may be that it requires higher voltages but it's kind of impossibile to have these increse in termals

tell us if you changed other components too, maybe there is a new cpu that just increase the temperature in the case

Try repasting it. Otherwise g12+aio is great.

A single fan? Yeah I don't even like purchasing dual fan these days with how much power consumption goes on under load. Weird that it's a new issue though, I'd make sure the fan isn't being obstructed; new "sounds" and issues with heat mitigation usually are correlated and push towards damage on the gpu, or some sort of minor obstruction in the cooling system.

Maybe obvious, but you should try cleaning it first to make sure it's not just a dust build up issue. That's been the issue for me before. If that's not it, you could see if your thermal paste needs replacing.

best to redo the thermal paste again and check the thermal pads make sure they're making solid contact.  the fans on the gpu might need to be replaced if theyre making noise, theyre going to be the most effective at cooling the heatsink vs other external fans, i've tried different combos before and i found the original fans mounted on the heat sink is usually the best solution.

what case you have? add some intake fans if you don't have and also an undervolt the card with  evga precision or msi afterburner will help

Water-cooling your CPU could reduce temperatures inside the case, thereby lowering your GPU temperature.  Worth a shot.

Try undervolting or limiting power bit by bit in afterburner. It may impact performance a bit (depending on what you set it to) but you should be getting better temps.

Lot of responses but I thought I'd try the easiest. I decided to reapply some new thermal paste and looking through reviews got Gelid GC-Extreme paste and some thermal surface purifier/cleaner combo and reapplied......Dropped temps to a more reasonable 73 under load (well RDR2 on benchmark for a couple of hours) I must have really messed up when I reapplied originally. Thanks for all the suggestions
