I think the queue system and elite member first into queue is a great way to prevent most scalping. No method will be perfect but its more than any other gpu company is doing.

The only way to stop bots is people stop buying from them.

Unfortunately, that's never gonna happen. Either due to necessity (people who truly need them for work), Notoriety (flexers), or people suffering from FOMO...

It's really hard. This is an Economics 101 problem. We have scalping because demand is much higher than supply and "official" suppliers can't increase the price. Therefore, we have scalpers. The real problem is that scalpers could be "hoarding" supply and creating "artificial" shortages. They could be acting as a descentralized-monopoly in distribution of sorts. A way to help is to ensure that no actor can "hoard" product. Many ways to try this and we're seeing some already (one video card per household for example).

yeah, I agree, besides the "one video card per household" I think its better for Nvidia to let all GPU manufacturers send an email to customers to choose what brand GPU, and series they want. For example, I want an EVGA 3080 Ti, so before it launches globally which will land in the hands of scalpers they can simply send me an email to purchase one allowing me to choose and buy and after purchasing it. I'm locked out of purchasing any other GPU card. They can do this via an API that lets all retailers know that my home address and debit card are locked out of purchasing a video card anywhere.

This. I don't understand how it's difficult to track how many cards each customer bought. I understand that you can easily change address or ship to a pick up site but I don't think a scalper would have more than 10 credit cards to pay with. One GPU per credit card number and you're locked out from buying another GPU for a month. Even if this is employed individually by every retailer it's sure to at least slow down the scalping.

The best way to combat scalpers would be to reduce the demand drastically or increase the supply drastically. Neither of which will happen any time soon.

Yeah, we're just seeing the new norm until some drastic change is made.

No. Many credit cards give one-time-use card numbers. Totally defeating your plan.

Number one way is to refuse to buy from them.

yup. if no one bought from re-sellers they would have to lower prices. also for the most part i guess using the evga queue would help you avoid the problems in gpu drops if you dont have tons of time on your hands.

I'm trying to be patient and wait for the market to normalise. I understand this could take a long time. Like many others, I've been waiting many months now to build a new PC already. My hope is that holding out and not buying from scalpers will give them less incentive to do it.

if stock can normalize enough the pricing should drop to normal, like with the 5600x and 5800x. who knows how long off that is though

I swear nvidia did this on purpose and is delaying stock until eth 2.0 hits and eth is no longer minable.

A. Then we'll be waiting for a loooong time since eth 2.0 isn't coming any time soon (proof of stake been coming for quite some time now.)
B. Nvidia won't do that. They'll make profit where and when they can. The whole LHR is a marketing ploy.
C. Nvidia, AMD, Intel or any of the other mega corps are not looking out for you. Be sure of that. As they say "Money talks".
