So I have a 3 meg image that is 1073x1167 and I gave it to a printing shop to make a banner that is 5 feet high and 4 feet wide. They told me that it would be way too blurry to print it at that size and I need to give them a much higher resolution version.
How do I do that? Can anybody recommend good software that can prepare this to a high enough resolution for them? Thanks.
P.S. A 501c charity is counting on this sign for a restroom fundraiser so I don't want to let them down.

There's no simple way to increase the size of an image and create detail which doesn't exist in the original. The original is smaller, and therefore detail is missing. Maybe this will give you some revelation about the magnitude of the problem. I think people would often create a collage of smaller images instead of upscaling a single small image into a huge image. Or, they could throw some artsy filters on top of the upscaled image to hide the fact that it is poor quality.

Thanks. I scaled it up like 8x and then got to work re-doing the text and smoothing the pixilation. Will see how it comes out.

This works only in television. In real world you cannot upscale image without losing details. I know there are some AI based solutions but it never really worked.

As above, you’d probably need some form of ML to accurately upscale a low res image. There’s a couple of software available commercially.

Gigapixel AI.
There is a free trial available (I think it was 30 days when I used it).
The output files astounded me when I took a 5 year old photo off Facebook (I sadly lost the original) that was roughly 1200x800 and upscaled it to a print-worthy A3 size.
Now: going from 1073x1167 to 5ft wide is a VERY big jump, so I can't say even Gigapixel could do that, but it's by far the best widely available option that I've ever used (and the free trial is a no brainer to at least test it).

It would be interesting to look at the magnification several times through the Gigapixel AI, and then run this enlarged photo again through the Gigapixel AI

Hopefully one day there will be a great AI tool in most software to do this, DLSS technology seems like its kind of setting the foundation for that to a possibility one day

Unfortunately, without seeing the image, it is impossible to say if rescaling that image is even remotely possible. if it is very simple with no color transitioning, perhaps. I've been working with Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop since they first came out. If this image is anything other than dead simple, I think you are going to be putting in a lot of work into recreating it. I wish it was anywhere near as simple as shows like CSI make things appear to be.

Ahhh...ok. Must be a small park, but if it has a high amount of use and alot of patrons it usually pays to have the proper facilities. We had a situation like this like 20 years ago, a large park with trails to run/walk your dog on, couple exercise stations, but it was mostly woods.Same thing, no facilities, so they worked out a agreement with the town to put in a baseball/soccer field out of the chunk of woods and that got them there facilities for the park.

They actually HAVE a baseball field here but it's run down and delapitated. It could be repaired but they claim because a major river runs next to it that there's issue with water laws or such? Red tape makes my head spin...

Yeah, depending on what state your in and how big the river is it def could throw a wrench in the gears. Especially if its part of a protected watershed or is a home to a rare native animal/critters/fish/insects/plants etc... That really complicates it. I believe in NJ youre supposed to be 300 feet from the water in question to build a structure, but the grandfather clause is still viable for older structures that are closer and built before the rules. Lol, Yeah, they got a rule for everything but its a good thing to know in case you want to buy a house near something like that, then you have to be extra careful on your property with pollution etc...

There are so many photo upscaling apps in the market. Look for Gigapixel AI for example :)
