Hey gang,
On my new build here, I am upon turning the system on for first time in the morning occasionally getting hung on Post Code 97. According to the Manual it represents "Console Output Devices Connect".
I power the system off , then back on and it boots normally.
I tried disabling Fast Boot in the bios but it still happens. It happens every 3 days or so.
Anyone else seeing this or any ideas ? I tried internet search but did not come up with much - saw something about the GPU maybe but have been running this 2080 Ti FTW3 in previous system since like Sept. and it never did this.
Saw another thread where a bios update fixed it for them (different board and MFG obviously)

This is the board with no integrated graphics right?
If you can get a hold of a cheap pcie gpu, I'd try that and if the gpu is at fault RMA it. It's possible that there's something funky with it.

No it does have integrated graphics which of course I am not using. I will take a look at the settings for that. Edit: Ok checked the bios, Internal Graphics was set to Auto, I have changed that to disabled. Will see if that helps. May be a day or two before I know for sure.

that code has been related to GPU. remove the GPU and use on board video and report back

Well I have cycled it about 8 times (since changing internal graphics from Auto to disabled), and so far it has booted fine each time. Course that may not mean anything - maybe when I boot after the system has been off a while and colder it might start it again, will see. I will give it a few days and see when/if it happens again.

I got the same Cold Boot Post Code Error 97 with 3 different 1300 G2 Power Supplies. Change your PCIe Cables out and if you can test with a Different Power Supply. For me the EVGA SuperNOVA 1200 P2 fix my issue.

Change your PCIe Cables out and if you can test with a Different Power Supply.
For me the EVGA SuperNOVA 1200 P2 fix my issue.
Thanks, I am running a new EVGA 1000W Titanium T2 power supply, all new. Will certainly keep in mind. So far since changing internal graphics from Auto to Disabled it has not done it again - but it is early still...

So far after replacing the 1300 G2 with the 1600 G2 I have seen one Warm Boot Code 97. None since, cross fingers and knock on wood. I just hit the Reset Button and enter the Bios and reload my Save Bios Setting. It is an RTX Thing IMO.

When it happens, does it happen before you get to the BIOS splash screen or as Windows attempts to boot?
I've run into this as well before BIOS splash but only after a failed RAM OC when I get the two red lights that indicate your RAM failed to post. When that happens I'll use the SafeBoot button, but if that fails I'll turn off the PSU via the rear switch, wait a min, turn it back on, reboot, and I'll get into the BIOS to fix.
I've also disabled Fast Startup in Win10 in addition to disabling Fast Boot in BIOS. Also have disabled integrated graphics and have set the PCIE generation for my GPUs to 3 instead of auto.

Always happens before the splash screen. I just watch the MB digital readout and if I see it go beyond 97 I know all is well. I too had changed my GPU from auto to Gen 3. When it happens to me, I just hit the power button to shut if off, then again to turn back on and it posts just fine. I am wondering if maybe something in the bios needs to be addressed and updated... I just don't think I have a power supply issue. Also don't think I have a GPU issue (it never did this on X-79 board). I am thinking it is likely a glitch, especially as there have been reports from at least two others here. Not a lot of us with the Z390 Dark are actively posting in the forum here yet, so that is a fairly high percentage of users so far.

It is so infrequent now for me since disabling integrated video I really do not want to go to the trouble, if it starts happening more again I may give that a try and see what it does.

You could use the Dip Switches on the MB to disable the PCIe SLots and unplug the PCIe Power Cables from the GPU.
Yeah, you are supposed to be able to do that, but I had a usb 3.0 PCI card in one and even when I disabled the port, It still saw something was there and disabled my SLI on the two other PCI slots I had running.

Sounds like an evga mb thing imo. My evga cards & gigabyte motherboard boot up fine every single time.
My EVGA X99 Motherboard with the RTX Cards and the EVGA 1300 G2 works fine as well. You might want to Post that it is an X99 Gigabyte Motherboard (Removed the Rest) This issues is with IMO with RTX Cards and X299 and Z390 Motherboards.

You might want to Post that it is an X99 Gigabyte Motherboard (Removed the Rest)
This issues is with IMO with RTX Cards and X299 and Z390 Motherboards.
Maybe I missed the posts, but where are the other posts that show the same issue on other vendor motherboards?

I know this is an old post, but was there ever a resolution to the issue described here? I am pretty sure this is the same issue that I have been having off and on with my EVGA X299 Dark, EVGA Super Nova P2 1000, and EVGA RTX2080ti. Previously for me the post codes had not been very consistent nor did they really match up to the issue at hand however recently I have been getting post code 97. Which to my understanding is related to the GPU and considering that when this occurs I just get a black screen and eventually my monitor flips to saying no input makes a lot of since.
As a side note I have hammered this build with stress tests and passes with flying colors... so I am not really convinced that this is hardware issue with the GPU or motherboard... @bcavnaugh you had mentioned that you had an issue with a power supply that was causing this?

Hmm, my current thinking s power supply issue.... This only happens to me on cold boots. I am thinking that the power supply is having issues getting up to proper output voltage/wattage in time from a cold boot. I think I am going to give EVGA tech support a ring tomorrow and see about getting a new PSU.

Getting stuck on post code 97 has not happened to me in quite some time.
I don't know why though. In fact not sure it has happened since replacing my 2080 Ti FTW3 with the 3090 FTW3 Ultra in Nov.

Having same issue on z370 micro BIOS 1.16 REBAR overclocked while it's stable. Will have to test stock.

Cannot reproduce when running stock CPU so it may be oc related. Perhaps not enough power for oc post.

I have an error code 99 on boot, but its description reads something about USB ports. It doesn't prevent full start-up into Windows 10, so I've just been ignoring it. I do however turn the computer off each time I want to do anything with swapping or disconnecting USB devices.

Ok so best I can tell I now have not got stuck on post code 97 whilst booting since like Dec.
Pretty sure at this point I can safely say I no longer have that issue on my system.
Only thing I can think of that might have changed, I run a lot of USB peripherals - mainly controllers - and I now have them plugged into powered USB 3 hubs with individual on/off switches per USB port and I turn them off when not in use. So they are all off when I shut the system down, and of course they are off upon initial booting up of my PC.
