I'd run it with what comes with it first and see.  In order to use the re-sizeable bar feature you need to have a newer mobo I believe and also have a bios for it that supports the re-sizeable bar before you upgrade the vbios.  I'd run it as is first and make sure you upgrade your mobo bios and double check that to make sure it does support the the feature before you attempt to update the vbios.

It's always hard to say how big of an issue it is.  If you read the posts, many of the issues come from people who don't understand what they are doing and they are update the vbios first or not even knowing they need to update their mobo bios in order to use the feature.  Also, the csm feature in your mobo bios is also something you need to keep your eye on once you know you are going to update the vbios for the re-sizeable bar.

Sometimes games and the features can cause issues as well.  I was playing cod and the gpu kept crashing after one of the updates.  I had to delete and try a few of the newer nvidia drivers to find one that worked and was stable.  Once I did that, the card has been great with no other issues.

One thing i will say is that highly recommended you download GPU-Z or something similar to track your power draw across the 3 sets of cables along with the power draw from the PCI-E slot.  I'd monitor that as it is a known issue with the 3090 ftw3s.  Once you start to have consistent power drops from one of the cable or excessive power draw from the mobo pci-e slot then it's time to call evga.  You'll need to keep track of the power draws across all the points and share that with them to have an rma pushed through.  Mines has been running great since I got it about 3 weeks ago.  But you have to keep an eye on it just in case.

Thanks for sharing. When exactly could you purchase the extended warranty for 3090? Is it step 2 date, the date 3090 is shipped out, the date 3090 is delivered or something else?

I recently got the 3060 XC and joined the step-up program for 3090 FTW3. I've been debating whether to purchase the 10-year extended warranty now ($40) or wait until I got the 3090 FTW3 ($60). I don't think I would keep the 3060, but I would definitely keep the 3090.

If I purchase the 10-year warranty for 3060 now, FAQ says it would transfer to 3090, but what would be the start date of the 10-year warranty? Is it the original purchase date of 3060, the date I signed up for the extended warranty for 3090 or something else?

I joined the same day (5/13), a couple hours earlier than you.

One more thing I'd like to share is that I didn't purchase the extended warranty when i bought my original 3070 back in January because I wasn't sure I was going to keep it.  Just prior to me getting my step 2 notification my 90 day option to purchase the warranty closed.  I was able to purchase the extended warranty on my newly received unit which started the 10 year coverage upon the date that I purchased the warranty.  I guess this card is a keeper for me, my son, or a good friend to maximize the warranty I just bought.  Just thought I'd share this.

It appears 3090 queue is moving really fast and I probably have to make a decision now...

@Gotspeed_2000
Could you check your remaining warranty days to calculate the exact warranty start date of your step-up 3090? For the extended warranty of the original product, even if it shows warranty starts on the day you purchased the extended warranty, the remaining days would date back to the original purchase date.

Re: New Unofficial 3090 Step-Up Queue Thread 2021/05/15 03:46:57 (permalink)
I didn't buy the extended warranty until after my new 3090 shipped.  I had the 3070 for about 3 months when my step up was processed.  I was beyond the 90 days after initial purchase, but not by much.  I was planning on selling my 3070 because I thought I was going to get a Kingpin card before my name was called for the step up which is why I didn't purchase the extended warranty because it's non-transferrable.  My 3650 days of warranty started on the day I paid while the card was in transit.  EVGA scans the serial number and it is added to your products page without you having to do anything.  Honestly either way you do the extended warranty should be good.

I wouldn't expect the card to be used that long.  I'm hoping to get about 4-6 years of use.  By that time, the technology and demands of games might surpass the abilities of the card.  I'm lucky where I'm able to purchase these types of things without it hurting too much.  I'm thinking if my son who is going to get this card after I get my Kingpin gets to year 6 on it I'm good.  After that I'm sure he'll have upgraded his gpu if he is even gaming then.  Having a full 10 year warranty is kinda overkill, but for 60 bucks how can you go wrong.

The 5 year warranty is just a little short for me in case you wanted to try and skip the next 2 generations of gpus.  If the games don't change too much, having 24 gigs of VRAM with the processing power this card has could have some staying power.  A 5 year warranty starting around now might make it a little short of the time it would take for 3 generations of gpus to come out if they hold the timeline of about 2 years.  It could force you to be an early adapter of the newest gen card then or fight to get one because your card is about to fail and is outside of the warranty period.  We have seen some of those cases with those who are on the 10 or 15 series of cards now having to fight to try and get a newer card or pay scalper prices just so they have something to use.

If you didn't buy the extended warranty with your original card, then the start date of the 10 year warranty should be the day your pay for it on the new card.

Thanks for sharing your experiences! That's really helpful.

So it seems I have 2 options to purchase the 10-year warranty for the 3090:

1. Pay $40 now for the 3060 and later have it transferred to the 3090. Would the warranty starting date be the same (3060 invoice date) after transfer?
2. Pay $60 after 3090 is shipped, with the potential benefits of a later warranty starting date.

@Gotspeed_2000 Do you happen to remember the when did the count down start to purchase extended warranty for the 3090? Is it the step 2/3/4/5 date, shipping date, or something else?

Thanks!

Re: New Unofficial 3090 Step-Up Queue Thread 2021/05/15 12:58:18 (permalink)
I went to my products page and this is the info from it from my 3090:
View/Edit My Products:
Place Purchased:  EVGA  Step-Up
Purchase Date:  4/22/2021
Date Registered:  4/23/2021 7:04:23am

Warranty Information:
Warranty Period:  10 years
Warranty Start on:   4/23/2021
Price Paid:  60
Purchased on:  4/23/2021 11:41:44pm

Others have shared that it should be the same date of purchase, but from the above information it shows the date of the warranty start date the day after the date of purchase.  It would have been more clear if I had waited a few more days to see how that impacted my dates/times as it relates to my product, but I wasn't trying to max out the warranty time.

I'm actually thinking it's the date of registration and they go from there.  I didn't look at my dates/times that well since I was good with just getting the warranty.  I wasn't sure they would have allowed me to start the warranty on the new product since my original card was beyond the 90 day window for the warranty to be added.

But I would get the warranty under your 3060 and save the 20 bucks.  If you have the cross ship option they I would consider that as it has benefits that could be attractive to users.  It wasn't an option for me, so I couldn't take it.  It cost me almost 80 bucks to ship the card back two day air from where I am.  It would have been nice to have that option so that I wouldn't have to pay for shipping back to EVGA and for them to ship me a card asap with a credit card hold.

Hope this helps.

Could you also look up the "Days Left" in the Warranty Information section of your 3090? Does it say ~3628 days as of today, 5/16/2021?

Thanks for confirming! It looks like the new 10-year warranty starts from your "Purchase Date" 4/22/2021, not "Warranty Start" date 4/23/2021.

It remains to check whether the transferred 10-year warranty would start on the old or new purchase date...

I know your old warranty info will transfer over.  It does not start over again.

TheDrDavid,
The 10 year warranty is an extended warranty you have to purchase for 60 bucks for this card. The standard warranty is 3 years.

10 year warranty isn’t looking like that bad of an investment. 60 bucks on top of 1900… finally joined the step queue on Monday. Hope it’s not too long of a wait!

I haven't received step-up notification yet. Hopefully we will get ours soon. Which post did you see?

Here's to hoping my guess this is faster than the 3070 queue works. My poor 1070 just ate the dust after 4 long years so I can't wait to get my next one! (don't want to Frankenstein something so I guess we enjoy the .... outside???)

I feel your pain! Hope you get that step up ASAP! I'd imagine it will be pretty soon

The RTX 3060 XC 12G-P5-3657-KR. I think it is the same as you. Saw one person entered step up the day after or same day as I did and got it turned around the very next day but they were stepping up from a 3070.

Yeah, I didn't know the base the step up on the card you are sending in. It seems to be that way at least.
