I just received from a friend a Titan X to replace my dead GTX 580 and I wanted to double check on the correct power connector to use. Both the Titan X and GTX 580 appear to use a 6 and 8 pin connector. Currently my PSU has two 6+2 pin connectors and wanted to make sure that will work with the Titan X or do I need a solid 8 pin connector for the card's 8 pin slot instead of a 6+2? Thanks for any help!

Just saw your earlier post. Congrats on getting that Titan X! That's one heck of a card. I'm assuming nothing went wrong during shipping? Anyways I'm pretty sure you should be fine with a 6+2 pin connector on an 8 pin slot. There shouldn't be any problems. Have fun with your new card!

Thanks! Fortunately my friend is very tech savvy so it was extremely well insulated, like bubble wrap layers upon layers so that nothing could move, and on top of that the box looks like it was handled well. So I'm pretty sure it hasn't suffered any physical damage but I won't know for sure until at least tomorrow. Figured I'd ask and make sure about this because the rest of my PSU's cables are boxed away from moving and I'd rather not fish through them to swap cables if I don't need to. Hopefully all is well and this card will last long enough.

That's good to hear! Wishing you the best of luck with that card. If all goes well that card should be a large step up from your GTX 580. Hopefully, it'll last you many many years to come.

A 6+2pin PCIe power connector will function as an 8pin when using the 2pin part, or as a 6pin when leaving the 2pin part hanging..That way, PSUs only need to have 6+2pin cables/connectors to be compatible with both 6pin and 8pin.

it works with 6+2, just an advice, if the cards require 8+6 or 8+8 and the power supply allows it, use 2 cable from the psu to the card instead of 1 cable with 2 output
