Could someone please test and confirm their X17 can reach full speed?
I haven't been able to get it to reach any polling rate higher than ~3000hz. I've tried a few online polling rate tests and even downloaded Mouse Rate Checker v1.1b. At first I thought it might be due to a power limitation on USB 2.0, but I've also tested it plugged into USB 3.0 and 3.1 (Gen 1 & 2). No difference. I'm not doing any overclocking. I leave the Windows power plan on the AMD Ryzen Balanced or AMD Ryzen High Performance settings. The polling rate will drop by about half if I set the power plan to Power Saver, but there's no difference between the AMD Balanced/High Performance settings.

Oddly enough, it's faster when set to 4kHz than 8kHz. It reports around 2000Hz when set to 8kHz, and gets up around 3000Hz when set to 4kHz... ???

Is there something I need to do to actually hit 4-8kHz? Is there a better way to test it, or is my mouse defective?

System specs:
- MSI x470 Gaming Plus MAX
- Nvidia GTX 970
- Ryzen 3900x
- 64GB RAM
- 850W PSU
- Win 10

All software up to date.

Just receive mine today. Same results as you. It is a lot better than my old one in terms of responsiveness. Could only test up to 3k hz even after changing settings in the software. Maybe my machine is old, don't know if comes into play. I did see a YouTube review have it hit 4.9k. A bit weird why claim 8k hz when in normal instance can't test it. Could be a marketing thing. What really appealed to me was the $40 price and 3 year warranty.

Just a guess, but could there be some sort of USB port limitations?

Thought I'd give it a try. The most I got out of any online checker was ~4000. That's probably a limitation of JavaScript processing time.
I tried that downloaded program you mentioned, the computational cost of printing out the rates is huge. Once I unchecked that I got this result:

Anyway, I have the X17 and a 144Hz monitor and G-Sync enabled for windowed and full screen mode.

I noticed the difference when unchecking the "Current Rate" box as well, but I still get under 4000Hz.

Anyway, I assume my mouse is either defective, or it needs a firmware update. My left & right buttons get triggered if I bump or set it down too hard & I get multiple Windows Event Viewer warnings that say: mouhid Event ID 1, "The driver has detected that this HID mouse has bad firmware.  It is reporting a bad physical minimum/maximum for one or more axes."

If a firmware update doesn't fix it soon, I'm probably just gonna toss it. Not worth the hassle to RMA.

Eww. Yeah that seems like there's something wrong. When I installed the latest version of EVGA Unleash RGB, it downloaded in installed the latest firmware on my X17.

AFAIK, I have the latest updates. Unleash RGB v1.0.7 & Firmware v1.68.

I even updated my MB's BIOS with the USB device compatibility improvements, hoping that would fix it. It didn't , but now I'm able to use my mouse to wake from sleep mode. Couldn't do that before...

I still think you should look into an RMA or something. Those Windows Event Viewer warnings are something I have never seen, and can't be good.
