Good evening EVGA forums.
I hope everyone is having a great day. So I'm currently looking to buy a graphics card for my sons first build. Nothing too flashy. I have a budget of about $200-250. I don't mind buying used.

What do you guys recommend for a used graphics card with a budget of $250-200? This will be for gaming @ 1080p-1440p. Thanks!

Are you trying to buy used or new? Your question can bring multiple answers.

Those who abuse power, are nothing but scumbags! The challenge of power is how to use it and not abuse it. The abuse of power that seems to create the most unhappiness is when a person uses personal power to get ahead without regards to the welfare of others, people are obsessed with it. You can take a nice person and turn them into a slob, into an insane being, craving power, destroying anything that stands in their way.

I apologize for posting in the wrong section. I forgot to specify: I am looking to buy used. Budget is $250-200 for 1080p gaming (possibly 1440p max).
As far as games... I'm not too sure what people are playing nowadays, I just want to get the "best bang for your buck" graphics card at that price range. EVGA Nvidia only :). (I will forever only buy EVGA)

I'm not really up to date with computer hardware so I'm not too familiar with what I can get with that price range. Thanks!

well im always scanning newegg and amazon and your sol for that money, the minimum i would look for on that budget is a 1060 6 gb card and the prices are just not low enough for your budget and alot of them are out of stock. you could try craigslist.

Not a good time to be in the used market, nothing's a good value and even old 1000-series Pascal parts are so old they won't have warranties anymore, but those aren't easy to find either.

Basically it's going to come down to what you can find locally at a fair price, so anything I could recommend isn't going to matter sorry!

Interesting. I will consider buying locally off of craigslist. I might have to cough up a little more for that 1060. Thanks everyone for the responses!

The problem right now is lack of new GPUs. That has caused the prices of used graphics cards to skyrocket.

Honestly, is waiting an option? My recommendation would be save that GPU money for now and buy a copy of Hades (probably the #1 game of 2020) instead.
It will run perfectly at 1440p on any modern intel iGPU (I can vouch for the UHD630 on 8th gen i5/i7). I don't really know AMD but the same is probably true for their APUs.

For the price range you've listed your looking at GTX 760/670/RX460 cards, aka its a terrible time to be in the market as a buyer. I just fixed a broken 1080, bad heatsink covered in paint, new heatsink from a DOA card on ebay, and flipped it for $700, now is not the time.

I just put together a comp for my daughter to use when she forgets her laptop, its an i7 3770, 8gb ram, 240gb SSD but given GPU prices shes gonna have to accept an HD6670 i had in my parts bin for now. To give you an idea of how bad it is, the GTX 480 is back up in value to $100, so is the 5870

You could always join the notify list for a card. It seems like used prices though have shot up recently so I probably would avoid used.

Use an Associates Code & SAVE 5% - 10% on your purchase. Just click on the associates banner to save, or enter the associates code at checkout on your next purchase. If you choose to use my code I want to personally say "Thank You" for using it.

Sadly now is the worst time to buy a gpu. $300 gets you some card that can't run games from a decade ago let alone current titles.

Given how crazy the prices are, it might be cheaper to buy a low-end prebuilt pc instead.

Honestly, $250 isn't going to get you ANYTHING.

If you've got an Intel i7 6700K, you're probably just better off going with the IGP (Integrated Graphics Processor) for right now.
Then, if you get lucky to pick something up down the road, or the market regains some semblance of sanity, you can pick up a better graphics accelerator.

I'd recommend a GTX 1060 or one of the 1660 variants--but you're not going to get anything in that price range right now.  You can't get any graphics card at a fair price, really.  I might consider buying a prebuilt machine instead of a custom build, because that might be the best way to get a graphics card as of right now.

If you wanna get 30 series (but impossible to get right now), consider 3060 or 3060 ti.

1660 Super or Ti would be a solid pickup. Even a used GTX 1080 or RX 580 wouldn't be a bad choice if you can find one reasonably priced

Truthfully, in the current market, you won't find anything that will handle 1080p/1440p gaming in your budget. Even used cards are being scalped way beyond market. Your best bet is to look locally. With nvidia cards, the last 2 numbers of the card roughly indicates its performance, while the first 1-2 numbers indicate the card series. I.e. a 3070 is of the newest series (30 series) and it offers good middle-tier performance (indicated by the 70). Similarly, a 960 is of the 9 series of cards and it offers good low-tier performance (shown by the 60). In your case, I would try to avoid anything older than the 10 series, and nothing below the 60ti performance level.

I guess you could try to get a used gtx 970,  they should be arround 200$ at this time i guess.
But thats pretty costly for a Card from 2014
